Hello fellow developers! So I’ve been thinking of making a game showcasing what I can do, but I’m not quite sure what most people see as “very cool” or “impressive”. What do you guys think is most impressive? (I’m a scripter by the way)
Lastly, if I posted in the wrong category or didn’t explain my question enough, please tell me
In my opinon… Post-apocalyptic showcase games are cool. I think it would be a cool idea to have another post-apoc game on roblox (Which would be realistic.)
I think it’s most impressive when a developer has terrain editor and impressive buildings/a full map/a map with scripts/UI etc. It looks great and the sheer amount of minor details blows someone away
Hmm… That sounds like a really good idea but I’m not good at building or terrain, and by showcase game I meant a game showing minor mostly scripting related, like an animated door or an NPC, things like that.
You could learn it, it’s not too hard. Some qualification in building or terrain can get you that one job that changes your life. Most scripting showcases will need building, anyways.
well what I would consider impressive is a game with good content, progression and that implements new ideas. So ‘Role Plays’, ‘Simulators’ , ‘Tycoons’ and ‘obbys’ are certainly extremely dead content.
If you wish to showcase what you can do, your going to want a montage, little bits and pieces. So show that you can work with different themes and different things.
Id make a place that would show the difference between your scripts and someone else’s. You really want to show that your scripts offer something more. With scripting adding in those sweet extras with no real effect on how the game runs is what makes a script better.
For example the sounds in your showcase, are you just going to loop some horrible showcase track or are you going to let the players play music and have all the information about the song come up on a nice GUI. Its really the fine details and going that extra mile that will set you aside. You just need to visually display it.
Another thing, why not offer a guided tour, like a tutorial. It will show your ability to make a tutorial and also show you can use path-finding to make life easier for players.
Really you just got to fill it with scripts that just go that bit extra and just spice it up a little, add in some interactive content to let them see how your scripts play out with players involved.
