As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to add people (or “Connections”) and make a difference between actual friends and people you associate with as a “Contractor, developer, worker” etc
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because I think this is the time we get this or a similar feature released.
Over the last year, I’ve been posting a few ways Roblox could improve their friends system, and I think it’s the time to post more about this, having said “Friends” get renamed to “Connections”.
I think it would be great to be able to differentiate between people we consider close, and people we associate for developing projects, fans and much more.
For example, we could have the main system be “Connections”, which would allow users to interact with each other and add each other. This would work simialry to friends worked until now, a limit of 1000 Connections/contacts.
However, for the friends part, we should be able to have more feature.
Starting off with a small redesign for the buttons, adding a new button to a contact’s profile to add as a friend or remove contact
Once a user was added as a friend, the profile page would show the option to remove as a friend/contact (or both).
Settings:
We should have a few more improved settings with this feature coming out, allowing us to restrict some stuff to FRIENDS only
(every option that includes “Connections” also gives permission to friends)
We would also need a new page for team create collaboration, to make sure that people don’t try to add others in team create games and terminate their accounts with inappropriate games.
These features would be REALLY needed, for a lot of developers. I myself like to add fans from my community, however I’m very careful with adding people at the moment, because there is no way to protect myself from team create terminations.
I believe this would make the social aspect of Roblox a lot better, and would allow developers to engage better with their communities, without putting their accounts at risk.
Other things to note:
- I don’t think new icons would be needed, both friends and contacts/connections should show the same in the leaderboard
- both friends and other connections should be able to change each other’s local nickname, I don’t see why not
- the friends should not show up on a different tab, not sure why would that matter too much, perhaps just add a dropdown menu, which allows users to select the option to see all of their connection or just friends (only for your own connections list, other people’s friends would be kept private)
- the “friends” feature would mostly be added just to change permissions of how those users can interact with you.
