Hi! I’m altrustica aka Jack and I want to get into game developing but I feel like I’m stuck. I’m trying to make an obby game but I don’t know how to do a lot of stuff and I don’t have enough robux to hire people and I don’t want to use free models. I’ve tried finding jobs but I’m not qualified enough for them. Does anyone have any suggestions? You can contact me here or on discord at: altrustica#7051.
Ok, before making a game, you should try just practicing and build up a portfolio.
Building or Modeling:
You should first just get a feel of studio until your fluid with what everything, or mostly everything does.
Then you should start practicing models or what catches your interest, you should also try and recreate images and concept arts.
Slowly(or fast) build up your best models into a portfolio making it easier for your clients to see the range of your skill
And make sure to practice practice practice.
Scripting:
I dont know much but you should try and start out to tinker with already made scripts and use tutorials. Tutorials help a lot.
To build up a portfolio, code a simple game and as your skills grow, the more complex your games can be.
If you don’t how to do it, then simply just don’t make it. Make something simple out of the skill you want to learn. As you get better, make more complex things that are good for your skill level. Then, make a portfolio and start getting jobs.
Start small. I discourage making a large project until you get a little bit of knowledge with studio. Try making smaller buildings / learning simple scripts before making a full out game. There are many youtubers that can help you get a feel for studio
I see your point, but disagree. Large projects have so many aspects to them, you can learn a ton by starting out on a large one. I say that from experience😅. I personally got bored doing small things, so go big or go home.
Yes, but if you get better with your ability to build / script halfway through, you’d want to restart from the beginning. You wouldn’t want half a fantastic game and half a less fantastic game.
That’s the nature of it. It just means even more growth and learning
Practice.
That is the only thing you can do to get better at scripting. It doesn’t matter how but practice.
Try not to copy code or use code unless you know what it is doing and you know already how to do it yourself.
I do not advise you learn scripting through videos unless it is something you need to be specifically explained to.
