When there is a new feature posted on the announcement page, I usually see some comments that comment about how great that feature is and posts relating to that. I’m not saying that those comments should not be allowed, but when I look at new feature posts I just want to see comments that question the feature and relating to the technical side of the feature. Is there a way to maybe create another related thread for those posts and for the main post to have only technical comments/questions. I know there’s a summarize button for posts, but it does not work that well.
Creating a whole different thread just to ask questions is not necessary. When the staff creates a public post, that’s where we can give general feedback.
For huge feedback such as additional features or bugs, create a post in #platform-feedback
If you see posts that contribute nothing meaningful, they can be flagged for spam such as
Thanks for this 30charsssss
This is awesome 30charsssssss
This is stupid 30charsssss
etc
Unfortunately there’s no easy solution for your issue. Just have patience and read through every reply, or search the thread using the search feature for something you think someone has possibly asked.
I’m not sure how the summarise button works, but from experience, it only shows you the posts that have a good amount of likes and possibly views.
I’m starting to get to the point where they only do it for likes.
you don’t earn anything over likes ??
I understand your point of view, but wouldn’t mass reporting just create more work?
I don’t think you get the point. Like in social media, likes are a sign of popularity, that’s why.
Creating 2 threads will double that work
Depends on what the new feature is, some features can cause bugs for users and that’s why some people question it and how it’d benefit the community.
On the other hand, there are some that are highly anticipated and awaited so users show their support and thankfulness in the comments.
maybe just make it so people can’t comment about how great the feature is bcuz no one cares about those comments anyways
Not really, wouldn’t it be the same as one thread since it is just the main thread divided into two. It’s just organizing it into more sections.
it’s not a big deal? I don’t get why comparing likes with other people should base if someone’s popular or not, its a dev forum for a reason.
Everyone on here is almost always a developer and if they fish for likes then it’s more likely going to be flagged if it doesn’t add anything to the topic.
Moderation is handled case by case, so moderators have to go back and forth from 2 different contexts.
It’s better to deal with 1 context in one whole thread.
I never said that they’d were comparing likes. Think of it this way:
At the end of a YouTube video, why do they ask you to like their video? And, why on social media, do people like others posts?
You can easily flag the comments if you feel like they’re not adding anything to the topic.
As I mentioned, some users thank the staff by showing gratitude in the comments and there’s nothing wrong with that.
That’s correct, there’s nothing wrong with that. But at some point there are just too many of them in one single thread.
In default Discourse, promotion criteria includes likes given. I highly doubt the Devforum removed any criteria.
