New Game - Biology Obby

Hey everyone! I’d like to finally show people a game I’ve been working on. It started as just a little fun project for my son. He’s Autistic and the world is a little confusing for him, but since he’s been learning about COVID he seems to have a fascination with biology. That led me to come up with this Biology-themed Obby for him to play. He loves it. I figured I’d add a few more levels and make it public. Let me know what you guys think?

First time scripting, first time making a game, and literally just downloaded Roblox a couple of months ago to play with my son. I hope to learn more, do more, and be more involved in the development process as I start to learn more. Thank you!

The game is friends-only, I can understand why. It’s an educational game, so you might want it get sent to the learn and discover sort! Also, Roblox seems to be a bit IFFY about Covid in games…

That was actually a mistake. Thanks for catching that! It’s now Public and screenshots should be verified soon. Definitely interested in hearing your thoughts if you explore around in it.

And yes, I’ve noticed a few models I would create, and a few meshes I would create, would be flagged. This should be fine though, it’s less about COVID and more about biology itself. The COVID nod was just to say what inspired me to make this (plus I’m a biology student, so that helps!).

I don’t know what you mean by the “learn and discover sort” but I’m interested in hearing more.

The learn-and-discover sort is a section on the games section of Roblox, made for educational games. You could send your game to the learn-and-discover sort, and it just might be accepted!
So far, all I can say is that it is a fun, and challenging game! Maybe a bit TOO challenging? Hrmmm??
The spinners on stage 4 are a bit laggy, and because they are green, players might think that it is OK to step on.
Stage 5 is pretty hard… I tried for ten minutes before noticing the red neon thingies were the killbricks!
Also, try making killbricks neon, and maybe even bigger.

Oh, thanks for that. I’m going to research and figure out how to do that and get on it!

Just saw your concerns. I really do appreciate that. I meant to change those green “E.Colis” so thanks. I’m just going to make them stagnant, and maybe delete a few.

As for Stage 5, haha I would hope that would be okay. It took a lot of time to get those laser beams just right to look the way they look heh but I may think about removing a couple.

Which kill bricks specifically are you referring to?

Edit: I’ve since stopped the spinning on stage 4. I changed their color to dark red.

All of them, really. It helps differ between normal and killbrick.

You got it. I agree. Any block that kills, I’ll make red/reddish.

I’ve also done a few more changes to a couple of levels that others have direct messaged me about so by tomorrow, game should have those differences and I’ll update this thread.

It’s a pretty good game, I like it. However, it’s very similar to those “copy and paste” obbies, which are clickbait. I advise you to make something similar to PlatinumFalls. Here is an example: ESCAPE THE HOTEL! (OBBY) READ DESC! - Roblox. Otherwise, it’s cool.

Oh, that’s a very well-made game. I can see how it’d be popular. This is still my first game, so it was fun to learn the ropes, but this is something to aspire to. Thanks for linking that.

And appreciate that you at least like the game.

If it’s your first game, then wow. It’s pretty good, anyways.

It sure is. I just downloaded Roblox a couple of months ago maybe, and just jumped right in. Thank you! I appreciate that.

It’s a good first game! If you are interested in creating more obstacle courses (or any other game for that matter) I would suggest a couple of things:
I am a new developer myself, and I found that watching youtube tutorials on scripting was very helpful. Some great channels are: AlvinBlox (his beginner series is great), the Dev King (I found his advanced scripting tutorials to be very helpful after I had gotten the basics down).
Secondly, I would recommend the Jupiter’s Towers of Heck kit for obbies. I haven’t used it myself, but it has many great pre-built tools for obstacle courses.
I’ll link the channels and the JTOH kit here:

That’s actually how I got started! Between the MANY YouTube videos (including those two developers), I was able to put this game together in a few weeks. It’s been impressive to see how helpful the community can be sometimes. Thanks for that!

Don’t know what I’ll do for my next game, but maybe an even more in-depth Obby. Don’t think I’m ready for the simulator life yet heh. Thanks for sending those!
