New game idea based on Junkbot raids

I am planning on working on a game with a story based on Flamingo’s junkbot raids. I could use some help with ideas and support.
(this is my first time using the forum, just got updated to Member today)

Story:
The Flaming-Co factory had a breakout after a machine malfunctioned and gave the robots developed there AI set on drinking oil and disposing of all non-robots.
You are a hobbyist who wants to try out designing robots. You buy some parts and a book (book title based on difficulty selection)
Now you are putting the robot together in your garage. However, after the factory breakout, the nearby army of robots are not happy with you creating (or, as it seems for them, torturing) a new robot, and they storm into your house. You are now in a mad dash to complete and activate your Junkbot before the robots… boil you.

Gameplay:
To complete the game, you must complete a series of quests to activate your Junkbot and destroy all the bad robots.
You have to look around your house for all the robotics supplies (wire, electrical tape, scrap parts, oil can, etc.) and avoid the bad robots wandering about your house.
The big issue is oil. Oil is used for stunning enemy bots, keeping your power generator alive (the robots caused a power outage and your backup generator needs oil) and saving up enough for the big plot twist at the end, which is your Junkbot, when activated, needs oil. If you don’t have any, you die. If you do, he destroys the enemy robots with a laser.

There are three different difficulties: Simple, Normal, and Complex. Each difficulty relates to the “how to build a robot book” ranging from “Robots for Dummies” to “Advanced Robotics by MIT”
Complex difficulty adds an extra enemy bot to the mix: The Cleetus-bot. Cleetus-bot is laying in a pile in the corner of your garage. Enemy Junkbots will steal your supplies to try to activate him. If you let him get activated, he awakens, slowly walks over to you, and fries you with a wire jutting out of his large chest cavity.
Simple mode is a complete joke. Seriously, it isn’t even scary.

Oh, and if your power generator runs out of oil… let’s just say you don’t want that to happen.

Genre: Horror

I haven’t started work on the game quite yet, but the alpha public test will be released at some point November-December, likely before Christmas. I have a modeling developer named ChaseForJonah (soon to be thatfrenchfried, as he is changing it) and he’s pretty good at what he does.

Notice: This is not a piggy game. This is not a camping/story game. This is not a game intended for junkbot raiding. In fact, I think it will be singleplayer - to four-player. I got a lot of inspiration from The Maze and Flamingo’s videos on junkbots.

What do you think?

It is in fact a very good and creative story, if you know you can do all of that, because it’s a lot of complicated programming then you should do it, and who knows you might be in a flamingo video. Never lose hope!

Sounds like a cool game, make sure you plan it out on paper to have a reference when working. Also in one month?? Even making a simple obby with a shop and stuff would really be pushing it. You should take your time to make the game high-quality and not focus on getting it out as fast as possible, if it will take 6 months then so it will be but now you have a really well-made game.

Actually I meant a public alpha test. That will be released before Christmas. It will contain the bare-bones game, mostly just the scripting will actually be final.

I think this a bad idea since junkbot raids will be less common and it will take months to develop a complicated game also by your self too, and story games are really bad since they all start and end, the same and their rep is really bad (cause of rushed games, bad games, uncreative ideas.)

This is a misconception. THIS IS NOT A STORY GAME, PIGGY GAME, ETC. It’s just a funny little game that me and my friend are making. I am almost creating my own subgenre of horror, sort of based on games where you have to defend the objective and repair it. And yes, junkbot raids will be less common, but the game isn’t necessarily for raiding, it’s for defending against an AI raid on your house.

But still I think you should hire some developers because you’ll never complete the game in time (unless you grind 24/7) before the junkbot raids die off. not trying to be rude but hire some developers before making it

We (me and my friend) are trying to, but will need to see if people are willing to work on a game that is most likely going to die pretty quickly. Also, we both spend a lot of time developing (most of our time after work, which is lots).

Yeah, find some developers because you need the deadline to be before the end of year (full game) or the raids will calm down or you can just find another story thats not completing based on junkbots (maybe normal robots)

I think that might be because you haven’t really seen a good story game. Although I do agree with you that they do have a bad reputation as they become rushed and only used for income. Although, any type of trend with the publicity of story games or piggy games end up being terrible because they rush them. This has been going on for a long time now though.

My opinion for @INDev_Gaming, if you’re adding a story, extend it longer than one game or match. Maybe make multiple chapters and with multiple maps for each of those chapters. Also make the story engaging with the sequenced events boost the tension of the story making it more interesting for the players. And also definitely get a team because you’re gonna be really exhausted.

TL;DR: Get a team of devs and extend the story and add interesting characters. Yes stories start and end, but stories are mainly the only thing that can spice up your game other than updates.
