New Game Idea - Feasible or Not - Design Your Own Smartphone

Hey all,

It’s me back again with a new game idea! As a person that’s enthusiastic about smartphones, I have had a new game idea about designing your own smartphone in a sandbox environment. It’ll be quite customizable and allows for you to get new chipsets with other companies and instead of most tycoon/simulator games, this would be realistic in the sense you might have to for example go down to the factory and solder/screw some boards in, attach the display or something, which has a lot of minigames.

At the same time, I was considering including educational concepts such as economics using supply and demand which can give it an educational twist by teaching kids economics concepts and help them in the future. This would be somewhat of a blend between leisure and educational.

It’ll be sandboxed as in you can design your own phone frame and decide the curving for example, or add notches on some models while being able to shrink the bezels on any side.

However, would this idea be successful? I’d like to ask for everyone’s opinions before I proceed because I’m afraid that it’ll be a waste of time and I’ll be unable to earn much from it (I’m a student remember, need the money for college).

Thanks to all in advance, and do share your opinions!

It sounds like an amazing idea that I would play. Keyword: I would. Not that many people know about chipsets and motherboards so it would be limited to success. But if this is based on passion I would encourage you to do it!

Now, this is the type of game that would take time, so you would in fact make money off of Premium Payouts, just maybe not gamepasses.

Love this idea, would absolutely play this game. Idea: let people have a whole business selling these phones! (they make phones, sell them, then get more powerful components that appeal to more customers, sell those and make even more, then expand to other products like laptops and printers)

It’s unique, well thought out, and seems to be fun, I’m in! I would always put college over my roblox career, however I wouldn’t make it stop you from making this game, or at least trying to.

That’s an awesome idea, I’ve made one of my games partially educational before, and it seemed to have worked out! Then again, I just couldn’t see kids wanting or caring to learn about economics, although it also depends on your age-range. By all means, keep something educational and helpful in the game, however it might be hard for your playerbase to actually care about it, you know?

Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing! You’ve got this!

Thanks all for the feedback! I was thinking that due to the insane variation in chipsets lists, it would be impossible to have a game day be 20 minutes. Rather, I was hoping that it’d be slower, say 4 or 6 hours. What do you think is a good duration for a day? It’s impossible to add all research and chipsets in at once so I’d like to have it progress slowly first and understand the chipsets real life manufacturers like say, Qualcomm and MediaTek are manufacturing.

In the meantime, I’ve started breaking ground so here’s a few photos of a Mi MIX 2S that’s made entirely out of CSG! The versatility of the design means that CSG will be the dominant engine used to create the device in 3D.

For computers like laptops, it’s possible to include them at a later date, say 2015 or 2016 in the game. The game starts off in 2010 and assuming we have 6 hour days, a year is sufficient for me to include these features.
