New Game "Puzzled" (back up!)

I’ve been working on a puzzle-type platformer called “Puzzled”. I’ve been the only one working on it, so it’s taken me a month to do and there’s definitely a bug in the game somewhere. I just hope the game at least works enough. There are only 2 levels/floors.

The Game

Story: It’s a normal day in Roblox until you realize you can’t go outside. You just can’t. You’re stuck. Every time you think you can touch that sweet, sweet baseplate, a colored glass wall gets in the way. You have to climb a tower filled with various puzzles that attempt to stop you from climbing to the exit. Are you going to be able to leave the Tower?

You guys give me feedback about what I should try to add or fix. I’ll most likely get others to help based on your feedback.

Should the game be harder or easier?

I like the game idea. But the first levels should be easier. The reason is that you don’t want to frustrate the player during their first attempt at learning the game. The first level is quite creative but the player wouldn’t have known that the ball can cause the walls to break unless they spent more time thinking about it. It might be best to show the ball doing something simple first, then having more and more elements included.

I haven’t played the game yet but I voted it 3 based on the desc you gave here. It seems like the game has no purpose for you being unable to go outside. I guess that is fine, but if there is no purpose, you shouldn’t dwell on that fact. Also if you do have a purpose of why players can’t go outside which is later discovered as players move along the tower, I would say allude to that like “Explore the Tower to discover the secret behind your entrapment!” for example.

I will play the game when I fix the personal scripting error I am having rn. But the game does seem interesting.

I’m actually thinking of having other builders make the higher floors of the tower. I’ve only made the first two.

Why are you spoiling the puzzle for the first level…

Sorry, I didn’t notice you were replying to him. I might look for builders to make the higher stages.

Alright, I will play the game now and share what I think after.

The First level was easy I disagree with the other guy you don’t need to change it.

But I think you may need to sort a scripting issue where the blocks to the next level are local and not server-sided because when someone joined and I was on the second level pushing that square block for what felt like an eternity, the next time I died the barrier to level 2 was blocked and I couldn’t get through nor could I redo stage 1 because there was no ball.

Making the spawn for people who are on stage 2 on the stage 2 floor could help combat whatever bug this is and would also be more convenient because climbing the ladder every time I died was a pain even though you had a really quick respawn time.

As I previously mentioned, the stage 2 part took me like 10 minutes because the lobby blocks were so small, I was puzzled as to how I completed it for a few minutes and when I finally realised how to do it, pushing the block up was so slow…
Unless that was purposeful please change it, the starting levels shouldn’t take TOO long.

Weirdly enough I enjoyed it and liked playing the game. I think the obby on the second stage was great. It was engaging and I liked how you had to pay attention to what was going on to pass it.

I do feel like the second stage was quite a big step up from stage one but if that’s what you are aiming for, sure.

I feel stage 1 is easy enough but stage 2 could be easier so I will vote Easier. In terms of game ideas, this is the best one I have tested on DevForums, continue the project for sure and I hope you find builders for the other floors. You will still be deciding the puzzle for each floor right?

I’ve been thinking about giving Stage 2’s puzzle a bigger roof, since the roof right now messes with the camera. The block pushing section is usually intended for having shift lock on. But based on your feedback, I think I should make the block-push section easier.

I’m also not that good at scripting, so this is why there are no checkpoints. The game was also intended to be single-player, so this is why I didn’t notice I had to make the blocks local. Not to mention that I did notice 1 - 2 was too big of a jump in difficulty, so I’ll change it. Stage 2 definitely needs a nerf.

And last but not least:

Nice.

When i just joined the game, timer 2 minute, there one of banned music playing over another music… Is that a bug or? What is the point of this post, if the game bugged itself and confusing? The green ball is gone, nothing worked in first level

I think those are bugs (see topic).

I tried to find songs that were allowed for the public to use (went with “uploaded by Roblox”).

Also, there is no green ball.

I just don’t get the point of your game. Any dude with a left account can come to your server and prevent you from passing, unless you make a teleporter like in the game “doors”, and i hope it will be very easy to prevent exploiters bother rolling the ball in play…

So the first dude goes through all this, the second dude comes and sees that everything is done, he gets a badge and shortens his time in the game, or thinks that the game is raw / unfinished and will put dislikes, as he does not realize that everything instead of him passed by another player, and he will have to look for a new server?

Player Feedback: Hey there! I just played the game, and wow, it’s pretty tough, like really challenging. To make it more user-friendly, I’d highly recommend adding a tutorial level or even just a tutorial within the early stages of the game. I found it a bit confusing because there weren’t any clear quests or objectives given. I know the main goal is to escape, but I wasn’t quite sure how to achieve that.

Suggestions: One thing that could really spruce up the game’s visuals is adding some cool textures. I stumbled upon these awesome texture packs that could work well for a cartoony style: link to texture pack 1 and link to texture pack 2. Of course, there are plenty of other styles out there, and you can find them on websites like Polyhaven [Textures • Poly Haven] and the Toolbox.

Overall rating: I’d give it a 2.5 out of 10. I hope you don’t mind my honesty, but there’s definitely some room for improvement. Don’t worry though, with a bit of polishing, I’m sure it can become a fantastic game!

I do mind… :triumph:

JK

But I’d definitely need a scripter lol
The only thing I was consistently confident about was the stopwatch. I added support for hours, but everything else was ups and downs.

Can anyone help me with the scripting?

I think I was mainly confused because I First tried to push the green block up the ramp and realised it was near impossible so decided it wasn’t possible and just stayed confused till I realised I, unfortunately, had to push it up the ramp…

Visit talent hub if you need a scripter. Otherwise make a post someone helping you with script that ain’t working. Thanks.

I like your puzzle-game style, you make it a pretty diverse experience because the game requires some work to get across the platforms, but it also had that wonder-element to it with the level design of the puzzles themselves.

The game’s really incomplete, but at the same time the puzzles were well designed for how simple they were. I love it.

Tried that once with a clicker experiment.

  1. One guy accused me of scamming him when I didn’t pay him immediately (he eventually stopped coming back to the place)
  2. I accidentally accepted someone too late
  3. 1 year of experience. Gives me a freaking ChatGPT response, one line at a time.

It’s minor, but not being able to toggle the music is a massive turnoff for me. Even having a simple screen GUI where you press a button to mute it is enough to do the trick. Oftentimes, I like to play video games while listening to music, and everything gets jumbled when both my music and the game music are stuck playing over each other.

Another small QOL thing is that the time should be properly formatted; I don’t need to know down to the hundredth of a second how fast I’m going. The fact that this only happens during the first minute is confusing. Ideally, the time should be formatted as “mm:ss”, but do whatever format you like, so long as it stops the GUI from freaking out when the 1/100th seconds whiz by.

Guys,

The game is a bit of a mess since not only am I an amateur scripter, but I’m also more used to building single player games. I hope you understand that not every coding engine has online multiplayer.

TL;DR I 80% suck at scripts
RobloxNameHere

The time format is ss.ms at the start, then mm:ss, then h:m:s:.
