New Progressive House Track I Made

I’ve recently been getting into the music the past 3 months(quite longer actaully, but technically 3 since that’s when I started taking it seriously instead hopping in FL every once every few weeks or months). I’ve still got a long way to go as a newbie, feel free to leave feedback and questions!

For those who don’t know, progressive house is a sub-genre of house(which is a sub-genre of EDM overall), and it’s main focus is it’s melodies and chords with a basic 2-4 beat pattern.

What kind of game would this be for

If it is for one Or what genre would it be used for? So I can be more helpful with some tips?

Not meant for any game, just a track to listen to for fun. The only games this would fit in are probably either rythm games or a club in a game.

Honestly I’m liking it.

Sounds like something that was professionally made. What program did you use?

This genre isn’t my cup of tea to be honest but it’s quite enjoyable to listen. If you want some critique when it comes to the technical stuff, I think that you could hit up my friend, Rorarius (disc: Parker#3015).

FL Studio. I mainly used Nexus and Sylenth1 for the synths and some Vengeance packs for the drums and FX.

I use LMMS since i can’t get a license to FL Studio right now, sadly.

Oh, well the sound is very good in my opinion. It’s something I would add to my playlist, I really have nothing bad to say about it…

That’s very impressive for three months. I was nowhere near this level at that point when I started producing music.

Something that would help out a lot is some basic mixing. I was listening through my phone speakers but I could tell the mixing was poor (possibly nonexistent). If you haven’t already, look up some tutorials on it. It took me a while to even understand what mixing was, but a few years of practice has helped tremendously.

Otherwise it’s a great start. Good job!

Mixing is my biggest choke point, used to be melodies until I did some basic music theory research and practice(melodies are actually my favorite part now).

I tried some sidechaining in this track(every-non drum would duck in volume when the kick came in), but there is still some distortion on the kick(especially when it hits the clap).

Try turning the whole track’s volume down. It sounds crazy but anything above 0 DB will sound distorted. You’ll hear a world of difference if the volume is lowered some.

Very cool music you made there! Are we allowed to use this in our games?

Sure, I don’t plan on using it in any.

I really like this song, your melody is very nice and varies throughout the song. I have a few tips to also make the song sound a bit more interesting:

  • Chorus progression: instead of having the chorus drums cut straight to the full beat rather start the chorus with the beat, then you can introduce the rest of the drums to heighten the song’s suspense.

  • Another thing I also think is that a few more gaps in the melody would sound really nice to, sometimes having nothing can make suspense and can add some variance to the track.

Other than that this is sounding awesome, I can’t wait to hear some more of your songs!
