Just a reminder can you stop posting your game ID and saying to opt in. They said themselves they’re gonna make a separate post for that. It’s just spam at this point.
Personally, I can’t think of a way to use a jelly material, but then again, I’m not the brightest bulb in the room. I still think that these ideas are great and should definitely be considered
This might have been the update we’ve been waiting for, now ROBLOX games can get much better and look more realistic! Also maybe there could be more materials added after the update has been added. Still looks cool though!
I cant even imagine how this will enhance the platform of roblox. Many other say that roblox is turning into a game engine like unity and unreal engine but, I think roblox will surpass them surely. Roblox is very far for how long its been online. Unity has been on since 2004 I believe. Roblox has only been out since 2006. So I believe roblox will pass them. Please reply to this comment if you think otherwise and state why untiy will always be better than roblox. Thank you for your time.
looks amazing i hope it gets added soon, it would be really useful for for making star wars maps
I really like the idea for frosted glass, I never even considered that. It’s inevitable that colder environments (along with several others) are bound to be utilized more because of this update and it’s counterparts.
None of the games here are gonna be in the actual opt in thing. If you scroll up you would see that this is just the announcement and not the place to opt in.
Jelly materials would be great for bending light and getting faint glows through a mostly solid material. You can also use it to get some really fleshy looking “infected” materials for horror style games.
Similarly, you can get oozing substances that are more solid and viscous than water without using a water texture. I have some really weird ideas on how to use it, but it’d look cool if the light passing through it could get done just right.
I agree, but the thing is lava can look many, many different ways and flow differently depending on a lot of factors, so it might be hard to get that to work. Would be epic if they did though.
When can we expect to be able to test this?
I told ya people would find a way.
This isn’t the sort of feature that can have a per-place opt in, just have to wait for it to hit production for Studio.
I’m sure someone has mentioned this already, but I am really wanting to see a better option for fabric. Something like this would be great:
Some kind of foam material would also be a nice addition:
I don’t know if it’s possible or not, but I really wish there was a better variety of glass to choose from. A glass material with some designs on it would be cool.
Oh my. This is amazing. Wow! The detail is so good!
Can we get real time reflections?
For example: A part has reflectance set to 1 it would act like a mirror.
And the details, distance and reflectance texture size could be controlled.
Perfect addition to all of this.
This already feels like a dream but after this i would seriously question if it was a dream.
Edit: I love seeing the engine getting more powerfull.
My suggestion is that more materials should be able to be reflective, because some people would like to have polished concrete, wet asphalt, polished wood floors, etc.

With SurfaceAppearance I will most likely ignore the default materials, but some new terrain materials would be really useful for a more realistic style. Would like to opt-in my place ID 6194109850 !!!
Would like to just remind anyone reading or replying that place ID submissions for the beta are NOT yet open, and a separate announcement will be made when the beta begins for the new set of materials. Until then, please be patient.
How do you get these new textures?
