This is an amazing update! This is going to make games so much more realistic! Even though I’m not a builder I’m sure this is a great update. I think Roblox added a lot of new really good features in the past few months.

The terrain transitions are already out, they just weren’t announced to be released.

Would be cool to see easier ways to make puddles, Part Water with a colour option so you can have different water anywhere.

Ability to use custom textures!??

I’d love to see actual cloth physics with a good fabric texture.

The type seen in these screenshots is not out yet, at least I can’t find where to enable them. What we have now is a lot more smoother but also less precise.

Like the other response said, no, they’re not. I check studio and dev forum almost daily just to be sure.

I’m talking about this, not the terrain materials themselves. The transitions are out, but only show up at high settings.

This is an awesome update! I really love just how creative, imaginative and realistic those image examples look with the new terrain. Roblox has really come a long way in the 9 years that I have been playing.

I can’t wait to see how developers utilise these effects to create some truly immersive worlds; I feel this is one area of Roblox that sometimes is done really well, while other times much is left to be desired.

I hope that Roblox continues to work on their immersion and ease of implementation so that newer and existing developers can have an easy time making their worlds look fantastic.

On a related note, I think someone should consider looking at ways to increase the server memory as these types of detailed, realistic worlds seem to take a toll regardless of personal computer specs. I think it would be good for this type of building to become the norm on Roblox.

Absolutely marvellous work!

Amazing! I’m really excited to see these new materials be heavily used in games! I’ve been waiting for an update like this for a very, very long time.

Definitely not, I think it will only prolong loading if they are of better quality. Roblox is downloading the game while loading.

So this means new studs as well, right? In 2013 when the textures got overhauled, studs got overhauled as well. If so, that’s awesome, can’t wait to try this out!

As far as I can tell, Plastic will be remaining the same to preserve compatibility, and because Studs/Inlets are deprecated, I don’t think they will be receiving any appearance updates ever again.

I think, for me at least, this is the best update I’ve had in the 2 years I’ve developed on Roblox.

Add like clean wood tiles that are modern wood floors

Although I find this to be a great update (more things = good things :man_shrugging:) I feel as though it could’ve been “better”.

Having to implement materials on an update basis yearly or so isn’t the greatest idea, not to mention that these materials are limited and that adding “new” materials is just textures/decals with hacky tricks to make them look right or not lag. Not to mention that current materials aren’t very “controllable” with other than a small “reflectance” property that is sometimes used for niche or small things.

It would be nice to have a sort of catalog as we do for plugins where you can grab and or purchase materials instead of waiting per update. Not only would this also help encourage another “market?” for development but can also greatly vary game aesthetics and looks rather than all appearing the same or re-used materials (smooth plastic is a first example :man_shrugging:).

Of course, doing that would lead to alot of challenges and might be less intuitive at times :man_shrugging:.
Atleast there shouldn’t be any arguements about how its going to destroy limited materials (this is a joke dont obliterate me plz :sunglasses:)

However, this is a 10/10 update I’m willing to see soon, I especially like how its used in the second picture :eye:
