New Terrain and Parts Built-In Materials - Release Build

because they won’t be as good as the new ones and the whole point is upgrading the materials

All of these materials look promising.

Still wonder. Are user requested materials gonna make it onto the list?

Perhaps a maybe.

But we’ll find out upon beta release (They’re most likely gonna fix most of the materials, then work on the new ones that they want to add onto, and the community requested ones (only some will make it in of course))

they said that they will consider the community requested ones so keep an eye for an extended material beta announcement after the new materials release.

well that is not totally true I actually really like the grass and slate material and think they would fit in nicely with the new materials and the only reason I say granite is because it has a very unique look to it that none of the new textures really replicate.

I’m not at all bothered by this change and I think in the absolute majority of cases, the new materials make these builds lookmuch better. They’re different, and that’s what’s throwing people off.

People have been using materials like sand for fabric, and “misuse” of other materials. That’s fine but the effect obviously breaks when the new materials come along.
However.

People haven’t even bothered to see if any other material will fit their case.

Even if no other material will work, Roblox has already committed to release more materials!
Your options, although perhaps limited for now, will be expanded within weeks after its release…

They have clearly explained that it is not viable to have both sets of textures available: because it’s too much space. This isn’t just just factoring the current material library, but all of the other materials that they have planned.

Roblox really isn’t stupid, they know what they’re doing. Roblox is changing and we need to change with it. Roblox isn’t trying to be that “weird bad-graphics game from 2013” anymore, it’s trying to move in a fresh, new direction.
These new materials make high-quality games and showcases look so much more professional and clean.

Anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk.

You cannot tell me that the grass looks fine - it quite literally looks like wet green hair, and is much more cartoony than I’d ever want to. Our game is meant to aim for realism, where we go as far as making a custom ocean just to make things seem more realistic.

It can look better depending on what you want the end result to be - and we don’t want the end result to be a cartoon / simulator game.

What type of material is going to fit for grass? it looks like wet hair as I mentioned above. There are absolutely no replacements for this grass texture, and simply messing with colors isn’t going to change anything here. The way you’re talking about this hurts quite a lot of builders.

True but that still leaves grass… there is just no good replacement for it right now. I would love to see a new grass texture redone in the old style ya know.

they are adding 6 grassy materials in the extended materials. Look at the list reply above

ah I see well I have high hopes for this moss material. Thats what I imagine new grass texture redone in the old style would be as the old grass material had a moss vibe too it. I mean if they add that and a good granite replacement I really can’t complain too much now can I ;3

I agree. The new texture update forces developers to remake their games which could take up to months or even be impossible to a point with the new textures. Adding a option to choose between old and new would solve every issue we have,

I’d say I am happy for this feature finally getting an update. Can’t wait to use it!

Also just for the sake of saying, this is the 667 reply

Plus, I think that these act as a way to try and jolt more people into using the badly-performant Future lighting - some of these look really weird and plasticy on “old” or standard experiences, which is very concerning and deeply upsetting.

The current materials, on the other hand, look decent on all lighting settings. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Edited to factor in the fact that the current materials do not look as good as they did under the old lighting engine, but still produce a much more consistent result in terms of appearance across lighting modes.

I would only look forward to this if they don’t remove the older material textures.
If they force the updates on me then I literally would quit.

old abandoned games will still have the old materials

they will. but they are adding more materials after that because of how specialized the new materials are

sigh

This is not going to be the case, and this is part of why so many people are complaining. Please read the original announcement through again.

i read in one of their posts that old games that are not updated will keep the old materials
