pretty sure 90% of people here agree that we should have a way for both textures to be used
This update can ruin a lot of old builds, at least allow us to change to old textures!
Although I do dig the new planks and the brick textures as the current one is hideous
I would say the new brick texture is a nicer texture, but it being so drastically different means anyone who found nice uses for the old texture suffers because of it.
like the one i showed this map is used in one of my fav games .
more like After no discussion and careless consideration
Diamond plates and metal were never a problem in the first place anyways, they were perfect for building in fact
I really am not a fan of this update, but all I have to say is, Keep the old granite! The new granite is not really, granite-ish.
Ah, Best material out there so far.
NOOOOOOOO IT LOOKS LIKE SLATE! ITS NOT EVEN GLOSSY!
I don’t like this, Please give us more explanation for what means,
we concluded that supporting the old set of materials behind a setting is not viable.
I don’t feel good about this update.
not to be mean but like every one was hyped now no one is good job roblox good job
This is quite nice. Roblox did a good job. Just hope you do not add those abominations of realistic humans onto the platform. That would give kids nightmares.
Whats the point of asking for developers feedback when you just iqnore it???
Like I hate to sound like a jerk but why? Whats the point of doing this? Its gonna break alot of games and It will take forever for some devs to retexture EVERYTHING. I feel like this is a cool update but why force it? why not let use use one or the other?
Most of the time they don’t ignore it, but I do see where your coming from.
I like some of these but others, not so much. For example, the grass below is so flat its hard to see me using this unless I was making a really realistic game and I covered it with grass decoration. All of the materials look very low resolution and grainy close up compared to the old textures. I do still think a material overhaul could be great but maybe with options to use the original materials.
I wish they just add a property on Workspace which allows the old textures. The new textures aren’t bad but can ruin lighting and other properties of some current games.
That’s not the bad part, the fact that the new metal can’t even be white (I’m not sure I’m basing it off other posts here since I don’t have the build installed)
Oh wow, in the parts where you can’t see the grout well, it looks better! That’s weird since grout helped og brick look like real bricks.
might quit developing, this has the potential to break every single one of my games!
@PysephDEV not meant to be a reply to you, just pressed the wrong reply lol
Now that we’ve blasted through what was basically all of the good news out of this post, I will now talk about the bad news.
It is incredibly disappointing to hear that the old library of materials will NOT be sustained alongside the new one. Though this is understandable in reference to developing materials and maintaining material consistency, I do have a problem with this.
First, there are still a few issues that persist with the new materials, starting with a small issue:
Now here’s the meat of the problem:
Some of you may assume that what I am saying is nitpicky. If I have to be fair, I would agree were I an outside bystander. The only problem is that with the strange decrease and increase of quality with different materials, the polarizing, inconsistent result presents a big issue in relation to one style of building: minibuilding.
With the lowered quality in some previous materials, some builds will inherently look gimmicky in reference to materials. This puts the entire minibuilding community at a complete disadvantage in relation to building stunning environments:
This is another example of quality dissonance, where you have multiple mateirals paired up with each other that fail to provide a neat, high quality result. This is a miniature and, unfortunately, without the presence of another grass material that lessens the “tonality” issues of representing grass in different scales and parts, you are returned with a strange, palm-tree ridden groundscape of a world.
This is why I am disappointed in reference to the fact that Roblox will not sustain the old material library. It isn’t only a matter of “oh my builds will be ruined,” it’s a strange matter of limiting the options in which players are able to create certain environments.
Again, this may all sound nitpicky and flawed to some capacity, and I can concede to that. The only issue is that the disparity in some cases and applications of these new materials is somewhat baffling. Wood and Woodplanks are practically perfect, it’s a shame that none of the other new materials got the same level of high quality treatment, though I can understand considering previous criticisms. However, since the goal IS to bring in new, quality materials, the main incentive that Roblox should go for, if we are to consider that old materials will never be sustained, is that the quality disparity between multiple materials should be fixed.
However, the BIGGEST thing we all want is for old materials and new materials to be kept together. The argument that the quality dissonance of new materials affecting one type of building is not the point of this post. The point of my post is for Roblox to at least reconsider keeping old materials out. This is an issue that affects everyone, not just a single genre. By maintaining old and new materials, the benefits of having different tones of materials in relation to scales of textures is overwhelmingly positive that it’s a no-brainer to keep them and also give them a quality rendition.
tl;dr: kinda nitpicky, but big quality inconsistencies within the new materials that will have inherent consequences in terms of type of building. also please actually keep old materials with the new materials pls thank you.
P.S.,
Even though this is more of a technical issue to some capacity, it would’ve been great to see the issue of seeing decals through glass be fixed. Here’s an example of an old build and the trees within it that use decals:
A follow-up post will be made that will fully test the new materials to see if they hold up to the issue of inconsistencies in actual practice.
Most of the new materials and terrain textures aren’t bad. But still, it should have a toggle for legacy.
Here’s a few examples how it looks in one of our games.
Example 1:
On the old terrain the volcano looks much cleaner and detailed.
Example 2:
The old materials compared to the new ones.
Example 3:
On this picture it doesn’t look so bad, we just need to make some color adjustments.
Example 4:
No big changes are required.
Overall the new textures aren’t bad at all except for a few like the slate, sand and grass.
For example, when I saw the grass for the first time. The first thing i thought they added was a Glass Mat texture, just looks a bit like it as you might see below.
But overall the update isn’t bad as long we will have the option to use old textures.
