Honestly I’m getting a little tired over this topic. I’m glad that Roblox is going to reconsider, mainly for one material.
There is no definite replacement for concrete. I have looked through each and every new texture and nothing gives off the same feeling anymore. It’s either too rough, too smooth. Of course, there were positives from the update, but there were other things that some people were concerned about (such as tiling issues, lack of versatility, and generally just some of the textures not looking good).
While I do support the new textures, or at least getting them, there’s no doubt there still needs to be changes done before a lot of us can accept them. The old textures had a lot of pros and cons, these ones have pros and cons, but it seems like a lot of people (myself included), had built a certain style with the old materials that doesn’t seem like it can be replicated, or if it is possible, it might never satisfy the developer or the fan base.
I’m curious to see where this leads. The option of having both materials would be nice and having new materials (after the criticism of the materials from the rest of the community) might be nice. It’s just that some things need way more changes in order to be beneficial to us somewhat.

Nothing. I have the tools to convert them into PNGs but I don’t have the time, nor does this fix the PBR textures. The normal map is missing the blue channel and the reflection map cannot be used in the SurfaceAppearance asset in Studio because it needs both a Roughness and Metalness map.
Interestingly, I’ve noticed that on parts, the PBR maps get applied at graphics 3 and above. Terrain textures are noticeably lower quality on pretty much all graphics settings except the highest levels.
You cant modify a material!
I dont understand why people hate that older materials in fact excists.
If a lots of builders conplain about the fact that it was forced, even experienced ones, then there is a reason.
And what’s bad if you can use both old and new materials? If you dont like the olds one then it’s an opinion, but a lot of people may need to keep them for some years, so it’s unfair to remove them
Now that there will be both old and news there is no problem anymore, right?
Also, I really don’t like the slate material anymore. Adding a light beside the old slate material looked absolutely different. Where with the new textures it just doesn’t fit.
Just an idea: what if the material versions throttle based on your graphics quality (1-5 is legacy, 6-10 is new textures)? We’d still need to address color toning and other small details, but it would be a streamlined way to let players toggle between their preferences.
I only showed the front of my facility, what they’ve done to the rest of my map with the materials update is criminal. This isn’t just a quick change a few values in lighting job, I will have to recolour / rematerial various parts of my map specifically according to the update.
I feel like the new materials are sometimes good/sometimes bad, but in my case it’s mostly bad. This might also affect other games specially showcases since they put a lot of thought on what material they should use on specific parts. Here’s some of my stuff before and after the new textures.
Overall, I think the new Roblox textures are kind of cartoony and only focuses on one thing unlike the old textures. For example the sand texture you can use that for a paper, cotton, water, but the new one seems like it will only fit actual sand. I hope Roblox will solve this issue so that we as a community can come to an agreement.
Hello Roblox why didn’t you listen to us? We have all said “Lets not have this forced, instead let it be a setting where you can turn on legacy textures to the old textures.” You guys are trying to improve Roblox I understand but you are ruining years of builds that people spent their time on. You guys are gonna make a huge chunk of the Roblox community to leave.
Please consider making it a setting that you can turn on and off. I know it will take more code to make it to show for everyone but it will help people to keep their old builds. I hope you understand that all of these developers are trying to get you guys to make it able to be switched on and off but you guys are ignoring us like we do not even exist. I understand that you are trying your hardest to make people like the update but we do not. Some people will say the opposite but it does not matter. We are trying to get you guys to listen but you are just ignoring us like we are invisible. We are just trying to make the game better and also studio by using old and/or new materials/terrain. I hope you can read this and understand the consequences of this update. Please make this a option.
Do you guys really want to lose a huge chunk of the community. You guys will probably lose money and your stock will go down. Please consider this.

Can you stop complaining about these small things every time? I had to look to find the differences you were saying and the after pictures still look better than the before you can just adjust the colours a bit if you want it to be darker.
Hello Roblox! I would love it if you can make them a little bit more realistic since people are gonna lose their builds that look realistic and are gonna have to spend more time using textures on their parts on every face. I would love it too look like the new materials but just have it more realistic. I get Roblox is a cartoon, multiplayer type game but it is just to cartoony.
I hope you guys understand this message and what the consequences are of them being to cartoony. It will make realistic games people spent time on making it look good all go to waste, just for an update? I get you guys are evolving but at-least make them more realistic.
