I am usually a fan of these updates but, this ain’t it. Especially, in the direction that Roblox is heading. Forcing people to use these is like ruining the vibe, atmosphere, etc and the versatility in that doesn’t exist. I think the perceived notion of “everything will fit” is incorrect & a flawed approach.
I honestly don’t really like the new textures replacing the old ones, I don’t mind Roblox adding new ones, but please don’t change them, well, at least to this
Huh I thought it was gonna be like, the old materials would be there with the new materials. I don’t think the new materials match the style I’m going for that well.
Oh my god. This is a great update. But I don’t feel that games should be updated without them being prompted to do so or being given the option. I feel this should be the choice of the developer. But needless to say this update is another needed one in the reason string of updates.
It is a good update, but I have seen comments about people complaining about the abrupt change of the materials, I do not want to sound rude, because this update can get a lot of benefit, but for builders like me, I would not like to see them change of the total, here is an example:
Soft sand: It is the new sand that will bring the update of terrain and materials
Robust sand: The classic Roblox sand, always used in terrain constructions or some type of carpet
(Descriptions are just an example)
I really would like to see something like that, that they are not changed and the player can choose them like any other material. I would always like to see them but that the cartoon style remains in roblox, but that it is manually the choice of materials. As sub-materials.
Do not overwrite the current materials. Please upload the materials as new, separate ones to leave existing games’ aesthetics intact. If you overwrite them, you’ll ruin a lot of games. A ton of games use the default materials because the developers do not want to take up too much of the player device’s memory with custom textures. If the current materials are changed, it would have defeated the entire purpose of using roblox’ original materials to begin with.
Developers will not significantly change their game’s look just because some materials updated. They will very more likely try to maintain their current aesthetic by uploading tons of custom textures, so overwriting materials will backfire in a way that causes some games to arguably become less optimized (since not all developers are familiar with optimization).
Past that, I do like some of the new materials, but this concern cannot be left out.
This is how it currently looks right now. Will we be able to use the old wood and new wood? Will you guys just remove the old wood material completely?
While some parts of my builds improved, any building with bricks now will look like this
Overall I do like the new materials but I would really enjoy being able to use both old/current materials and new materials together. I really don’t want to go through all of my builds and have to change so many parts of them to look normal again. Currently I am loving the new Metal and Concrete material, new Wood is ok and new Bricks I don’t like. So I really do hope we have the option to use both materials. Seems like it would be the best option.
While I do enjoy the new material update to Studio, I am afraid that the old materials will be completely removed. Please leave them! Add these new materials to Studio and keep the old ones. As shown above, many atmospheres have been altered and old work must now be completely re-done.
I like the changes, but some of the colors are off. Setting the rock color to all red makes them a very bright purple and the mud seems very green-ish. These are the only 2 that I saw but I didn’t check very many.
While I’m all for the growth of this platform as a whole in regards to the resources developers can use, that doesn’t mean it should be a mandatory change. I personally think developers should be able to pick between legacy and new textures in this case, as Roblox has been using the same ones for such a long time now. A forceful update will ruin the integrity of a lot of classic games, and can potentially ruin their aesthetic as well.
Aside from this, I do enjoy seeing some more detailed textures, however, I’m wondering how this will change the community as a whole in terms of game creation. A lot of what people are going for is more low poly and cartoon-ish, so I’m wondering how that will translate.
