Hello all! I am a little new to terrain and thought I’d ask the community their thoughts about how I should approach this new approach. Keep in mind that I didn’t necessarily finish adding hills mountains etc…
So I am working on a game of mine and I wanted to utilize terrain this time around. To give a little background the game features 4 teams that clash and fight each other hence where there are four biomes. I haven’t gotten around in adding tree’s and other environmental factors as I am focusing on the map itself. So I guess what I am asking is…
Questions: - Are the biomes to0 big or too small? (based off the untampered spawn location)
- Is the map setup alright?
- What should I do about the edges of the map (I am thinking of making an ocean so the map will be sort of an island.
- Any of your special input that would make my map look a lot better/realistic.
This terrain is great! Especially if you’re new to using it! The map is good with all of the places and areas! Nice job on this! How long did it take to make? When will the game be released?
Thank you! I wasn’t sure how good it was as I had nothing to base it off of. It took me around 5 hours collectively as I had to figure a few things out and how I wanted to approach it. Well, to be honest its going to be hopefully done and released around September 2025 as I am a single dev trying to make things work, lol.
This is a very good start, especially if you’re new! The map size and spawn is very reasonable, and it seems you’ve added variety to the height of the terrain. This is great!
You could consider adding a bit more texture to the terrain, for example, in the desert area you could paint on sandstone onto steeper terrain (resembling natural rock formation,) and add other types of materials in spots where they seem reasonable.
If you’re looking for a different coloring to your terrain to help assist your game’s environment, consider slightly altering the color of your materials used inside Workspace > Terrain > MaterialColors. I’d also personally increase WaterTransparency and enable Decoration.
