Will there still be a feature to keep the pre-2025 UI? I think it should work like materials.
Before I want to say anything, just want to let you know that I like the new UI for the studio, and have been providing feedback since its first release in July.
Aside from the absurd example, the person you’re replying to has made no comments expressing a statement such as “empty space serves no purpose”. Their primary problem was unnecessary empty space. Which is something afaik the engineers are already aware of (I am sure you are too) and they are working on more customizability options to allow users to shrink the Ribbon.
That is good info to know - never knew that - explains a lot.
Now we can also see who among us are using Windows
Got a bit too interested and lost my studio privileges when I enabled the next gen studio

(Edit)
Running the studio installer fixed it
I agree with everyone that there’s a lot of unnecessary space, especially on a Full HD screen. On a 4K display, it’s more manageable and looks better due to pixel-based scaling. However, on my HD screen, the output and top bar take up far too much space.
I couldnt test on 4k but i could test on some more unconventional resolutions and it just makes me feel like it was made for screens higher than 2k which came with the drawback of having the full hd lose size
I’m not a fan of the new UI, it feels weird to me. I know it will eventually be finished, but right now it doesn’t feel ready to be rolled out to all users. You can’t choose the number of players for testing (which was the purpose of the clients and servers section), and the custom tab isn’t ready yet, so we can’t even try it out.
Comparsion side to side:
There are fewer buttons on the ribbon now, which is a good thing. However, the buttons at the top are so wide that, despite the reduced number, they end up taking more space than when many buttons were tightly packed together. For me, it’s not a big deal because there are faster alternatives for actions like Union (via right clicking the selected part) and Changing Color (through the properties window). As long as buttons with no alternative methods, like Edit Pivot, are positioned on the left side of the tab, it works fine.
According to the last post, the Customized Quick Access will be gone permanently and replaced by custom tabs. This is a really bad change, Quick Access is meant to be quick. I’ve set up lots of useful functions and plugins in my Quick Access, and losing this feature will be a huge inconvenience.
The Explorer now takes up so much space with a larger search box and larger font size, not everyone has a large screen. It also doesn’t match the font size of other windows. This drastically reduces the number of items that can be displayed. Imagine working with thousands of parts or scripts, it becomes incredibly difficult to navigate.
Very nice Studio improvements.
Though, I still often worry about the security of my group experiences especially after finding out a default roblox role has permission to edit experiences in the creator hub without me editing it previously. I am only planning to upload my experiences to groups for the purpose of close community selected role access to these games, and as a mainly solo developer I would appreciate if there was a setting to disable any other person from accessing my experiences that could not be tampered with by admin perms or any possible future update.
Empty space is nothing, and I don’t get why yall are suddenly trying to be insistent on nothing being something that absolutely shouldn’t be mitigated or editable in any way, or why yall are trying to pad out certain aspects with filler
First, the various menus for the devhub and managers
Then, the topbar and TextChatService
And now, even studio?
And if talking about mac or other potential devices with notches, couldn’t the mac version just be compiled differently from the Windows version (mac apps and windows apps are using separate formats yknow)
Failing that, at least give us an option to do something with the space, disabled by default for compatibility
I prefer it being like this than having the one it’s about to be released live, a laptop like mine has such a small screen, not everyone here has 4k resolution screens too,.,.,.,.,.,… but it’s like, designed for a bigger screens rather than for all
one thing that’s missing is, WHERE’S THE BUTTON TO HIDE THE RIBBONS??? i USUALLY hide it by default so i can make UI or others easily but this is just painful having that removed from the studio
Design updates like these are basically always done in piecemeal–old stuff gets migrated over to match new designs.
I understand, but my main concern is thethe huge font size, which means fewer items are visible on the screen. This makes it harder to work efficiently, especially when dealing with large amounts of parts or scripts.
When I was either testing UGCs I uploaded to Roblox or models I just generally uploaded to my game from Blender. It was quite messy. I’m quite glad that they added this now. Very eager to try this out and see how much this would improve QoL.
This is a step in the right direction, but the current state of this UI is still absolutely horrible for people who are used to the old UI. The old UI offers a lot more advantages that the new one simply does not have (other people have already mentioned these) and the new UI is simply just way too big. With a 24 inch monitor, the amount of space this UI takes up is absolutely unacceptable!
Now, I know the post says you will fix the whole “where are all the features” issue, but what about the absolutely massive size of the UI? It’s about 1.5x bigger (rough estimate) and is not intuitive at all aside from custom tabs (which are really nice don’t get me wrong) but I just have zero reason to use it at the current moment.
Unless you are going to fix these issues, do not make this forced. All that will do is just upset the community and turn potentially thousands of existing devs away from Roblox to other engines such as Unity or Godot.
So, if you could please either fix the size issue, or make the new UI toggleable some way, that would be greatly appreciated by a lot of people.
Found an annoying issue with the new studio UI…
the studio popup should not really appear infront of other apps, in this case the roblox client UI
and here is in front of the devforum post
Couldn’t agree more - the new interface, despite user feedback, remains far too excessively padded out compared to the current UI. It cannot ever be a suitable replacement unless it is re-adjusted to match the current UI proportionally.
I sadly can not use the new UI, because you forgot about the scripting perspective. All nice little tools for scripters are GONE in the Beta for the new UI. You just can’t script properly.
I have waited 100 years for the play test controls. Looking forward to being able to actually try this new design, it looks very sleek!
Would you just quit updating all user interfaces every year? In addition to wasting time adopting and learning the new interfaces yet again, it becomes worse every time. Roblox Studio has been oversimplified and overmodernized. There is clearly a lack of input from the community and what we actually want. We are sick of some of the things interns believe everyone wants. Provide a way for us to opt-out of receiving the latest updates to the interface.
Okay, this is going to be a long post.
I’ve just enabled the beta features, and it feels like everything is just… out of proportion. Some buttons are the right size, but many are too big or small.
For example, here is the movement snap section:
Old:
New:
Everything has been inflated, and the space doesn’t feel like it has been used efficiently. Meanwhile, here’s the more options button for the test button:
It’s only a few pixels big, I wish I was joking. Also, here’s the more options button for the part button compared:
The old one is much easier to click, whereas you have to consciously aim for the new one.
Another issue is the topbar itself.
The old one feels very clean, with all the important buttons on one nice line at the top of the screen. The new one segments everything into messy clumps at different heights, whilst also managing to remove some useful shortcuts like undo, redo and new.
There are also some other missing buttons, like Game Settings, Collision Groups, Run Script, and (probably) more.
It also looks like the very top buttons (file, edit etc.) are being expanded even more from the screenshots given in the original post, meaning the topbar will take up even more space.
There are also, confusingly, two plugin buttons on the new topbar which both serve different purposes. The larger plugin button is missing on the screenshots in the original post, but this will only make things even more confusing as the entire plugin toolbar will presumably have changed.
Finally, it now seems impossible to unpin the ribbon.
My question is, and I know this is a bit late, but why can’t we have something like this?
As far as I’m aware, this would keep all of the functionality of the new UI but compacts it down into one much more aesthetically pleasing bar. Here’s a list of what I’ve changed:
- The main topbar buttons have been shrunk horizontally as I don’t see a need for them to be as wide as they are.
- The ‘file’ button is kept in a similar location to the old one, as it is already in an intuitive location. As a result, the testing options have been shifted right to allow it to fit in.
- The ‘view’ and ‘window’ buttons of the new topbar are replaced by a single ‘view’ button on the normal topbar here, as they serve a similar purpose (and the old topbar managed make it work). The menu would probably still, however, be split into window and view categories to differentiate the functionalities.
- The ‘edit’ button is gone as the menu it shows can be accessed simply by right-clicking.
- The ‘help’ button has been replaced by an
?
icon next to the notifications button. - These changes have allowed everything to be kept at the same level rather than using the current ‘multi-layered’ system, meaning this bar is much more space-efficient, and the style is kept consistent.
Anyway, there are some things that I think the UI has done well:
The new UI and Script menus are very nice, and I like the fact they stay on the topbar consistently as opposed to magically disappearing when they aren’t needed - especially for the UI one.
This point will seem slightly contradictory to what I said earlier, but I like the new window options.
To clarify, I’m not talking about the UI itself here and how it is accessed, but rather the categorization of windows into multiple sections like ‘Debug’ and ‘3D’, andhow the most useful/miscellaneous windows are kept at the top, so that they can be reached in minimum clicks.
In conclusion, I think that the new UI is… a mixed bag, to say the least, and I unfortunately have to agree with most others here that it isn’t quite ready for release just yet.
tldr; new ui is mid, but could be easily improved
Uhh it takes up 30% of the top of my screen though.
Anyway you guys can improve this? I’m on 1080p so there’s not much to the viewport left.
