New & Upcoming Studio Updates: Performance, Customization, Collaboration

This is a step in the right direction, but the current state of this UI is still absolutely horrible for people who are used to the old UI. The old UI offers a lot more advantages that the new one simply does not have (other people have already mentioned these) and the new UI is simply just way too big. With a 24 inch monitor, the amount of space this UI takes up is absolutely unacceptable!

Now, I know the post says you will fix the whole “where are all the features” issue, but what about the absolutely massive size of the UI? It’s about 1.5x bigger (rough estimate) and is not intuitive at all aside from custom tabs (which are really nice don’t get me wrong) but I just have zero reason to use it at the current moment.

Unless you are going to fix these issues, do not make this forced. All that will do is just upset the community and turn potentially thousands of existing devs away from Roblox to other engines such as Unity or Godot.

So, if you could please either fix the size issue, or make the new UI toggleable some way, that would be greatly appreciated by a lot of people.

Found an annoying issue with the new studio UI…

the studio popup should not really appear infront of other apps, in this case the roblox client UI
and here is in front of the devforum post

Couldn’t agree more - the new interface, despite user feedback, remains far too excessively padded out compared to the current UI. It cannot ever be a suitable replacement unless it is re-adjusted to match the current UI proportionally.

I sadly can not use the new UI, because you forgot about the scripting perspective. All nice little tools for scripters are GONE in the Beta for the new UI. You just can’t script properly.

I have waited 100 years for the play test controls. Looking forward to being able to actually try this new design, it looks very sleek!

Would you just quit updating all user interfaces every year? In addition to wasting time adopting and learning the new interfaces yet again, it becomes worse every time. Roblox Studio has been oversimplified and overmodernized. There is clearly a lack of input from the community and what we actually want. We are sick of some of the things interns believe everyone wants. Provide a way for us to opt-out of receiving the latest updates to the interface.

Okay, this is going to be a long post.

I’ve just enabled the beta features, and it feels like everything is just… out of proportion. Some buttons are the right size, but many are too big or small.
For example, here is the movement snap section:
Old:

New:

Everything has been inflated, and the space doesn’t feel like it has been used efficiently. Meanwhile, here’s the more options button for the test button:
image
It’s only a few pixels big, I wish I was joking. Also, here’s the more options button for the part button compared:

The old one is much easier to click, whereas you have to consciously aim for the new one.

Another issue is the topbar itself.

The old one feels very clean, with all the important buttons on one nice line at the top of the screen. The new one segments everything into messy clumps at different heights, whilst also managing to remove some useful shortcuts like undo, redo and new.
There are also some other missing buttons, like Game Settings, Collision Groups, Run Script, and (probably) more.
It also looks like the very top buttons (file, edit etc.) are being expanded even more from the screenshots given in the original post, meaning the topbar will take up even more space.
There are also, confusingly, two plugin buttons on the new topbar which both serve different purposes. The larger plugin button is missing on the screenshots in the original post, but this will only make things even more confusing as the entire plugin toolbar will presumably have changed.
Finally, it now seems impossible to unpin the ribbon.

My question is, and I know this is a bit late, but why can’t we have something like this?

As far as I’m aware, this would keep all of the functionality of the new UI but compacts it down into one much more aesthetically pleasing bar. Here’s a list of what I’ve changed:

  • The main topbar buttons have been shrunk horizontally as I don’t see a need for them to be as wide as they are.
  • The ‘file’ button is kept in a similar location to the old one, as it is already in an intuitive location. As a result, the testing options have been shifted right to allow it to fit in.
  • The ‘view’ and ‘window’ buttons of the new topbar are replaced by a single ‘view’ button on the normal topbar here, as they serve a similar purpose (and the old topbar managed make it work). The menu would probably still, however, be split into window and view categories to differentiate the functionalities.
  • The ‘edit’ button is gone as the menu it shows can be accessed simply by right-clicking.
  • The ‘help’ button has been replaced by an ? icon next to the notifications button.
  • These changes have allowed everything to be kept at the same level rather than using the current ‘multi-layered’ system, meaning this bar is much more space-efficient, and the style is kept consistent.

Anyway, there are some things that I think the UI has done well:
The new UI and Script menus are very nice, and I like the fact they stay on the topbar consistently as opposed to magically disappearing when they aren’t needed - especially for the UI one.
This point will seem slightly contradictory to what I said earlier, but I like the new window options.

To clarify, I’m not talking about the UI itself here and how it is accessed, but rather the categorization of windows into multiple sections like ‘Debug’ and ‘3D’, andhow the most useful/miscellaneous windows are kept at the top, so that they can be reached in minimum clicks.

In conclusion, I think that the new UI is… a mixed bag, to say the least, and I unfortunately have to agree with most others here that it isn’t quite ready for release just yet.

tldr; new ui is mid, but could be easily improved

Uhh it takes up 30% of the top of my screen though.
Anyway you guys can improve this? I’m on 1080p so there’s not much to the viewport left.

The beta next gen explorer is very buggy. I hope this is something that will get worked on before it gets pushed out of beta testing.

Bugs are:

  • When dragging a element scrolling is only possible when you move your mouse around.
  • When a object is converted using the plugin ReClass the children of the object disappear even though they are there.

The explorer is however noticeably more performant.

I’ve also tried to test out the new studio UI but had to turn it off because it was too different to the current UI. Some features / buttons were hard to find / wasn’t there at all.

I have also noticed that when using Roblox Studio on a computer with a 1080p monitor and a 4k monitor connected studio can become confused and display a distorted 1080p mess on the 4k monitor. I have to move studio to my 1080p monitor to fix this but things like autocomplete in the code editor will be tiny until i open a new Studio instance.

No one is complaining about the existence of empty space, we’re complaining that it’s excessive empty space. As someone with sight issues I certainly have a say in what’s excessive. And something between the current ui and the new ui (leaning towards the current ui) is what would be most suitable for most users.

The best solution is to simply have the spacing and sizes be variables that we can adjust to personalise the UI for our individual needs. Some users may be able to handle smaller spacing or smaller UI objects and thus will benefit from being able to reduce the spacing and or size, while other users may need more than the default and thus need the option to do so without forcing all users to use an overspaced default that only is necessary for a very small number of people.

Please give us the option to keep using the old studio design. The new one is bloated and uses way more screen space than necessary. Making something look modern doesn’t make it better.

will there be an option to revert to the old studio ui when this becomes the new ui?

No. This isn’t a simple re-design, the underlying framework and systems have been changed from the ground-up. If it was a simple UI change, this would’ve been done months ago.

The current next gen studio is missing the newly released pause physics feature in the play-test mode.

I plan to use the most out of UI personalization. I really like having my own visual look.

Does that mean we will be able to cathegorize our models into groups we want to put them

Are Run and Play Here there as well?

This design approach is understandable and completely justified for Roblox Player and other areas of the platform that are commonly accessed by the average user. But this is Roblox Studio we’re talking about, it’s a tool that’s supposed to get the job done. No toddler is going to use it, no one is going to use it with a touchscreen. There’s no reason for these amounts of empty space. It provides zero benefits for mouse users.

What definitely has escaped them, though, is that not everyone uses a big display for Studio. In case of pure 1080p it will be fine, but with 125%+ scaling, or any smaller resolution, the ribbon will easily take up 30% of the screen, and that is going to be absurd.

You need to pipe down a little.

The last time Roblox received a UI update like this was in 2014. From there, the layout stayed static until now. The biggest changes they’ve committed to Roblox Studio for the past 11 years were mostly just switching from Lua base icons to their own designs. In big 2025, nearly 2026, no way they would change the user interface?

Is it oversimplified? Yes, to the point it seems limited. Is it overmodernized? Maybe, they could’ve done a better job to look just enough like Unreal Engine. However, it is definitely not the worst we’ve had. If you looked at Studio before 2014, it’d blow your mind; it’s just too much to take.

Really, the only thing you’re adapting to is the user interface that reflects simplicity and modularity of Blender.

You clearly do not think hard enough or have you done your own research. You “care” about this, but you don’t care enough to get out to your own way to give feedback and provide constructive critiques for how things can be improved, only to complain. Roblox has utilized their Research Panel to listen to reach the commons about how they can improve their UI+UX. Roblox has unveiled to everyone in the RDC regarding this UI change almost two years ago. The demo showcase and the time given should’ve been enough for you to get familiar with the new UI. We haven’t even counted the fact that they made a whole announcement on the DevForum and released the beta for you to TEST OUT and give them feedbacks.

If you’re going to get pessimistically technical, then at least be precise.

You would be surprised…

Also, the File, Edit, Object, etc. options in that screenshot are not how it actually looks like. I assume the screenshot just comes from a Figma project or something. (Which is also why some buttons are in the wrong order or labeled wrong, ie: “Property” instead of “Properties”)
