New & Upcoming Studio Updates: Performance, Customization, Collaboration

PLEASE make the new next gen studio ui have a less tall topbar. theres so much empty space, make it smaller please. you could even try make it use the windows topbar to save some extra space too

according to a staff member, that empty void at the top is for mac devices (which is still stupid since mac apps and windows apps literally cannot run outside of their own ecosystems)

It is very good to see the studio evolving.
But please fix the locking tool that has been broken for several weeks now, and please fix it soon.
I am having a very hard time locking all the models in a folder at once.

This list needs scrolling too. It’s one of my biggest gripes.

I apologize for having information wrong, but please do poll the liked comments on this post. You’ll come to find the ones that state disgust for the new design have the most amount of likes.

oh my god this is so cool, cant wait for the update!

Would be awesome to see the overwrite group model feature also get some QOL changes. Just like overwriting an animation the filter by id would be amazing to have for group models, as scrolling looking for certain group models does turn into a lengthy process!

Thank you for the feedback! You may note from the original post here we will be releasing full play test controls (and custom tabs) in the coming weeks.

Spacing and padding are all much easier to change in this new UI framework using Stylesheets. This has been a consistent request from the community and we will begin tuning layout once we get full feature parity.

I understand your concerns with Quick Access but I ask you keep an open mind. For one, we are utilizing menus far more than before and this puts a lot of functionality just a click away. Custom tabs is effectively the same as having multiple Quick Access toolbars. For those that ask for immediate, rapid access to the same actions/tools, I always recommend consider using keyboard shortcuts.

These things should be customizable. Are there plans to add settings such as Studio UI Spacing, Explorer smooth scrolling, and maybe Studio UI Font Size in the studio settings menu?

Yes we agree!

First we need to get Studio moved over to the new UI framework and architecture that supports this. Right now, we’re migrating the “core” UI but there’s still other UI that needs to be moved over (like Settings, for example). We’ll also need to adopt the shared design system. Then we can expose a UI for customization and theming.

i wish said UI customization could also be added to the roblox client (looking at you, Experience Controls), hopefully yall agree with that too

They are waiting until the new gen studio becomes the main UI before adding studio settings for customization, I wish it was out now though but there would be confusion with it.

If they added it now there will be at least one person asking, “Why doesn’t the text size change on the old UI when I change it in the settings”. The customization is delayed I think to stop people from being confused why customization doesn’t work on old UI. It also delayed for things like getting rid of bugs and making sure everything works.

It seems to me they aim for customization.

Well I still wish this customization could be added to the roblox client too on a native level

I wish they exposed some APIs so we can have our own settings built into the core UI settings. Unfortunately with all the core ui setting changes they made that wasn’t in mind with the development.

When they were working on the sidebar one it could’ve been implemented into that but unfortunately that one never made it to production.

Thanks for the feedback! Can you elaborate on what you mean by “scrolling is only possible when you move your mouse around”?

I’m looking forward to the new custom tab. However, I’d like to know if we’ll be able to add not only plugins but also essential functions like Save to File, Play Here, and Run. These might seem like uncommon choices to you, but I usually edit offline and test the game under different scenarios with many minor changes. While these options are available in the dropdown menu, they’re not as quick to access.

I get the modernization aspect of this, but studio is a tool and not a website. There is way too much space around everything. It makes studio feel more like I’m using a boilerplate website template than a tool. It just encourages me to do more outside studio so I don’t have to interact with this new interface as often.

Super unappealing.

The UI reminds me of the talent hub UI issue back when it was released, too much padding, missing features, etc.

All play test modes, including Play Here and Run, are persistent in the former Quick Access area.

We do allow any combination of built-in and plugin actions on a custom tab. Save to File shows up as an option but it’s not letting me add it in this pre-release build. I’ll ask our team about it.

Please dont force us to use the next gen explorer UI, that thing does not let us combine atleast 2 things into one thing. Plus add the redo/undo buttons back because without them, mistakes are more problematic. Overall, the changes are fine. Would have been much better with the next gen explorer thing fixed and the redo/undo feature added back though.
