It’s from RobloxPluginGuiService it’s like the empty name popup only this can’t close and is empty idk empty name was a confirmation prompt I think and this is just empty it’s called Roblox studio literally
I love this feature, with the new upcoming scaling features, it will allow for the new ui update to happen without ruining the workflow of creators. Thank you for putting effort on making studio and customizable. Curious, where can I find this tab? (I wanna try this feature out)
You can right-click (or left-click if your mouse settings are inverted) on an empty space next to the tabs, then click on “manage tabs” this will invoke the pop-up to appear.
If you’re still confused, here’s a video explaining how
Keep in mind you need to enable the “Next Gen Studio” Beta feature.
Thank you! Working on a new post with some how-to details to go live this week (hopefully!)
Feature Request
I’d love to suggest a feature that could really improve the workflow for a better organization of the studio’s ‘center screen’ tabs.
Reasons:
- having many tabs open at once
- knowing where u were when rejoining studio (currently the tabs don’t stay in the same order)
- sorting tabs in any way (eg. by feature, connection)
- fixing bugs
→ so in total not freaking out + not giving up
Possibility:
Browsers have been finding improvements for a long time now so those are the perfect reference. In In Opera GX there are 3 levels: Tabs in a Tab Group in a Workspace.
In my opinion Tab Groups would help me so much with not losing the perspective and sufficient for Studio since you are probably working under deadlines.
This is even more important for people with just 1 monitor.
If the finished Next Gen Studio UserInterface will have this for me it’ll definitely be much easier to code the game and more.
No, this is not the already existing ‘tab management’ feature.

Additional Feature Requests:
- (already in discussion) Custom KeyCodes.
I’d like to add that the best way to me would be like in blender. Almost every button there is you can add to a key by pressing on it with the 2nd MouseButton.
This understandably requires an already well built Interface but/ and is worth it.

- (already in discussion) Keep the customizable shortCuts at the top left. I use it for buttons I wouldn’t add to my keys like TeamTest. I do not use it for buttons that are connected with a keys like in the current Ui the PlayTest on F5.
Needed?
- Yes

Needed Improvements FOR the NextGen
- Loose Studios Windows’ Positions on rejoin
As someone who is creating UIs in Rblx Studio most of the time I hate docking Studio’s windows so for me they’re loose on my screen. Now when I reopen Studio I always have to reposition them… which also isn’t that easy to do :). Maybe this even will be programmable in the next meaning you don’t have to implement it?
- I also have that problem.

I thank you so much for acknowledging at least most of the posts This is what software development needs. You’re appreciated.
My Quotes
@Nyaatsumi2
Who is Roblox Studio designed for, professionals or casuals? Or should it be addicting?
Right now, Studio feels more like an app trying to look fun than a real development tool. But why? Tools like Tone Studio or Visual Studio aren’t built to entertain, they’re built to be efficient. The UI respects the user’s focus, time, and workflow. That’s why they don’t use flashy icons everywhere. And when icons are used, they’re often smaller than the text, not bigger. That’s a detail that makes a huge difference in user focus. Icons have the size of 1:1, does text as well? How do you combine them? Don’t… An alternative would be to place the icon on the left of the text. In your design tho this would just make more space than before. This is only an argument for your design because of how bad it is already.
In Studio, it feels like the goal is to make people click rather than create. A UI that looks like a toy doesn’t help serious developers it slows them down. People like me even would be freaking out and being embarassed using it. The issue isn’t the presence of icons, but the weight they’re given in the layout.
Look at the ‘View’ tab of the current UI. There are 5*3 buttons on the left which probably take just as much space as 4 of the Next Gen’s.
And honestly, first impressions matter. If a skilled developer opens Roblox Studio for the first time and is greeted by what looks like a cartoonish layout, that doesn’t inspire confidence.
This isn’t about taste. It’s about productivity. A professional UI is not just about aesthetics (I honestly hate that style and believe it’s embarassing.), it’s about function over decoration. When you design for creators, you give them control, clarity, and flexibility.
Designing for developers means understanding their mindset. They want to build, iterate, and focus. They don’t want to be distracted or feel like they’re navigating a game menu. If you’re designing a tool, treat it like one.
New Explorer
As for the Explorer, it’s like the devs didn’t even know what it was capable of. There used to be a feature I could access with just one button press, and now? I have to press three buttons in a process I repeat about six times at once. It’s a joke. They’ve stripped out functionality and made everything clunkier. It’s like they forgot what the Explorer was supposed to do in the first place. The way I use it it honestly breaks more than 2 times at 1 day.
But there are a few improvements as well.
Solution:
Bring back the ‘[Tab] to rename the object below’ key please.
But But
Despite all this, the ui absolutely isn’t any near to the worst in that style but most of them are not for productivity.
@Pismyren
That’s the least problem we have. Appreciate the developer’s reading time. I can’t call it an appropriate question because we won’t be able to edit the Luau’s code lol :). I just have a problem with your superficial complaints.
That’s why I’ve mentioned:
I’d like to add that the Dev Forum would appreciate if you only post once and edit it whenever you have additional or quote something. I agree, yours is not a complain.
@Pismyren
Fyi: Now in total there are 6 posts of you also containing 2 for the same problem which is solved already. It’s still a good thing you named your posts :). I’d like you to not reply to this to prevent other things from happening or let me know that you want me to delete this part. No threat.
@wallofgarlic
Long time no see! You once sent me this and I will not forget you. If you tell me to go I don’t go, You go. soon. Sadly this discussion is expecting a 12th post from you. Does not give me the impression that you understand how hard it is to organize big projects just like this site from the studio’s developers’ side.

You do not access the posting feature without having read these rules.
I’m sure topic posters would also like you to name your replies. This also shows respect to their time. Thx for reading this reply.
Special negative thanks to foodeggs7 for a total of 39 replies on this topic.
As you can see it worked! You just have. Also for my own health I do not talk to you anymore. Do not respond to me. I have quoted the official rule you do not follow. I have not been bad to you in any way, You have!
My Biggest Wish For It
Enough freedom of scripting it. You can’t do anything wrong then. How much I would love to script the userInterface a lot for my own and maybe even connect it do extern APIs speaking of ClickUp.
If there are people that do not have the skill to also do that by themselves others could just share the scripts - u get it. =)
It’s in your hands, I beg you to, it’s out of mine. I hope your team is doing fine working together.
I recently tried the new UI and I had to opt out of the beta almost immediately. The first (and only) issue I had affects how quickly I can move, resize, and scale things…
In the current UI I can easily change decimal numbers :
I can’t do that in the beta UI. I have to move my whole hand to add a decimal point them move it again. Trivial, but it adds up. It also very much interrupts my flow when working with loads of small parts. :
Please don’t push the new UI out of beta without changing this…
Sorry, I don’t fully understand the moving hand/decimal comment.
I just tried in both UI and I think the issue is in the old UI when you enter a new value we select all of the text which makes it ready to be updated vs the new UI it seems we de-focus the text field when you enter a value. Is this what you mean?
While the old UI allows to edit (and replace) the value instantly, the new UI clears the text box.
OK that was my other guess. But in the old UI when you focus the text field, it selects all of the text. So you’re just re-typing the full value in both cases? Is it just a matter of seeing what the old value was right when you type? Or do you hit the arrow key to append values?
Clicking once in the old menu selects the full text, in this case the number, but double clicking focuses the selection to to the right of the decimal. The new UI doesn’t allow that as it overwrites the full text as CSJ clarified.
this
would be awesome if the old behavior stays, thank you
Got it! Thanks for the clarifications.
big fan of this! however, my 2 (or 3) cents:
I liked the old UI so much because it was functionality > looks. This is the opposite, or at least from what I can tell. It feels a lot less “cramped”, which is good for some people, but personally I feel it wastes a lot of space now. You could argue that the old one did that too, as there was a huge empty layout to the right, but that’s not what I meant - the buttons now are way too far apart. Customizable padding would be wonderful.
My second nitpick: verticality. You can’t stack buttons like the old ui anymore. This was super useful for tools you use occasionally, but not a lot - like the Lock tool or Anchor tool. These now, without an option to make them smaller or compacter, are the same size as the other buttons. This not only removes visual distinction between “common” and “less common”, but also takes away space for other buttons you’d use more often.
Also, labels do not use vertical space, either. See: (example buttons, i dont use these a lot)
With labels
Without labels
It’s just so much more compact. I like this a lot more.
With verticality and smaller padding: (I forgot to reduce padding for the Select tool, mb)
So much more compact, and now you have a lot more space for other tools on the right.
These are sort of invalid examples, as it’s only so few tools, but this was night and day for me.
Third: the plugins list. I have a lot of plugins, so this might just be a me-only issue, but this is awful.
You can’t scroll in the list, either, so about half of my plugins are just straight up inaccessible now. Please add back horizontal scrolling, or at least make this dropdown scrollable.
Additionally, toolbar text doesn’t exist anymore.
That’s all the complaints I have. If these were added, I would be quite content with the new UI, but as of right now, it’s a nightmare to use and adapt to. I’ll have to switch back. Thank you for all your work though!
bumping this but first
hi linux user here
i⠀ know roblox doesnt really focus too much on the linux community because god forbid they spend money and also the “hacking issues”, so ive been using vinegar, but what ive noticed with nextgen is that the tooltips are creating physical windows that dont behave well with my window manager
(or something like a tooltip behaviour option)
^ old version didnt do this, all extra tooltips were kept inside the main window, thats basically my only concern with actual functionality
i⠀ really dont wanna have this forced on me if it doesnt work with my machine, and for me this entire thing just seems like making things worse for the sake of it
adding on to what the person above said
completely agree, this new update seems to serve more aesthetics than functionality, the compressed “suboptions” were super nice because if i needed more niche actions, i wouldnt have to open an entire context menu, every tool was just there, and it didnt take up space
there was a very clear distinction between what was important and what wasnt, but if it wasnt important, it was still there, and thats awesome
now you kinda have to decide on if the action youre doing is common enough to keep it in a whole slot
the padding regardless is a bit too large, for both the main bits of the topbar and the little stuff at the top
every action in the main part of the topbar takes up too much space, id love for it to be customizable
(yes this is left-aligned)
for the little stuff at the top, there is a great distance between the computer icon and the left side of the home page, a lot of my muscle memory comes from the current version of studio, so the fact its a little bit off messes me up still sometimes
also totally agree with the plugins list, i have no clue why you guys removed the horizontal scrollbar, this combined with the tooltip issue i mentioned prior sucks to navigate personally
customization
i think its awesome that you guys are adding functionality to the studio which allows people to customize the topbar to their needs, but it sucks when its not in the areas which people are asking for
the best thing i can wish for is the ability to code your own ui, especially now that its using luau, but i also understand that takes time and effort
i just think some stylization from the user would definitely help the issue of others not liking the ui, because then theyre able to change it if they want to
to me it seems like imposing arbitrary ui tastes onto users, and thats disappointing to see when they liked the old one, obviously tools need to evolve but i dont understand why the frontend has to change along with it
either way…
i like the concepts behind it, i just think there are some things that need fixing, i can tell you guys are hard at work and thats great, but youre giving changes to a community where a large portion of them dont want it
and <you, the op> are taking time to listen to the people and thats awesome, thanks a million its the bare minimum from roblox really, i just have trouble adjusting when “essential” features are missing
thanks a mil
With this reworked UI are we also gonna get the possibility to make keywords such as “local”, “else” etc. in the script editor not be bold? :o
Where am I complaining in that message? I just asked since they seem to be big on customizability in this new UI…
Is it possible to move the “Home”, “Model” etc. buttons to the left instead of them being in the middle?
right click it and open the editor panel it’s an option on the bottom………
Cannot stop running the game. This has happened twice. Why?
Edit: looks like I can play in this screenshot, but I literally cant.
