I’d rather we make tooltips work well and be useful! We’ve been fiddling with the timing as well as the rendering issues.

Thanks! I’ll keep sharing these with our engineers.

Those are considered “complex controls” and we don’t yet support them in the Add Tools workflow. In the meantime, you can duplicate the default tab that has the controls you want and edit the copy down from there.

We’ll be killing the overflow menu in favor of horizontal scrolling. It’s a high priority item for us.

I’m not sure I understand the playtest tab issue. If I have a custom tab selected, start a play test (client/server), and then end the test session. My original Studio instance stays on the custom tab.

You can definitely hide tabs! Just right click in the tab area (but not directly on a tab) to bring up the Manage Tabs dialog.

Is there an estimate for this? The overflow menu is really annoying for me atm.

We have not touched the vertical spacing yet. We have designs that significantly cut down the padding along with options to hide tool labels and “float” the ribbon. At a minimum, tightening up the default padding is high on our list. I’ll even share a sneak peek of the mock up (work in progress, not finalized, blah, blah).

We also have some other ideas that pull this up even more.

On the vertical tools: more complex layouts like you describe with tiny icons are technically possible. We just need to get over the hump on the default stuff first and then figure out how we can allow someone to specify these fancier layouts.

Overflow menu is going away. It will horizontal scroll. Also a high priority (but thanks for validating!)

It will be done before our next big release in early June. We will push it to the Beta Feature as soon as we can (don’t have a more accurate ETA than that for now)

Looks pretty good! However, the softness and the roundness of the previous iteration should remain, and the separators should better fit with the background. But it’s a mock-up so I’ll shut up now.

Can’t wait! The overflow menu being removed is gonna be huge.

Changes to colors, including the background, are also coming. That’s a whole other sticky wicket.

Will the ability to scroll like in the old gen Studio UI be added? This is one of the reasons I cannot stand the newer GUI. If you are confused with what I mean, I have attached a GIF to demonstrate what I mean.

I actually never knew this was a feature.

Man, the milliseconds I could’ve saved.

Yes. And it should be actual smooth scrolling (that’s what I’m pushing for, at least). High priority!

It’s awful thanks for sharing this with us. Can’t wait until it’s no longer optional and everyone is FORCED into using this. In the meantime when are we getting tools to be able to reasonably comply with the right to erasure requests flooding my inbox, among many other unsolved issues? But at least we got a more dumbed down studio UI that will make it 10x harder to get to niche and specific tools.

Right now tooltips are a workflow-breaking issue with the amount of disruption they cause sticking on your screen when they shouldn’t be. This issue was originally reported months ago and no progress has been made, despite your continued acknowledgement of it. Considering this timeline of events, I’d hope you could consider adding a simple toggle in the meanwhile so we can essentially disable the one part of the new UI that causes issues for us.

It seems non-bugs (like improving scrolling) are being prioritized over actual issues that are disruptive to workflows and waste time. It is disappointing. I wanted to stick with this new UI but my patience is running out. The fact that such a minor issue with a minor feature cannot be fixed, and that the team refuses to implement a 5 line code fix to allow us to disable tooltips in the meanwhile, is really frustrating.

Unreasonably rude. Try reading the post (You’ll be able to add custom tabs, and more customization features. Also, this might not even be the final design used when it’s fully released.)

Also try using constructive criticism.

I know it’s a beta feature and can be toggled on and off but when it eventually becomes a full feature I’d still like for it to be toggled because I work a lot in studio and have everything down to muscle memory and 1. I don’t have the time to relearn some UI and 2. I don’t want to.

The new UI doesn’t look bad it’s the specific placement and layout of it. So I really ask that when this gets finished if you can still have the option to have the old UI, even though the ‘old’ UI doesn’t even look old in the first place.

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but if this is to be forced in the future, an easy way to collapse the tabs like the current, non-beta, UI allows us to do (double click any tab to toggle them being collapsed).

Additionally, a way to resize the tab labels and tabs themselves, vertically and horizontally, so we don’t have a massive big bar on top of our screens while we program, play test, take screenshots, record footage, etc.

EDIT: apparently the top bar with the tab labels is called a ribbon and is “docked” or “undocked” which probably should be renamed to “Hidden” and “Visible” since undocked implies it is movable or positioned else where
