Next Gen Studio UI Preview is here! [Beta]

Thanks for more detail…

The rendering issue is a known problem with very specific Nvidia DirectX drivers. As far as we can detect, this is not a widespread issue and only happens in very rare cases (I assume you’re using one of the few laptops we’ve identified). We are working with Nvidia to resolve this. In the meantime, changing Studio to use Vulkan through Studio Settings instead should resolve the issue for you.

This is using our new UI framework that does also power the Preview Beta. This UI framework is far more style-able and flexible than we’ve ever had with Qt. We are in the early stages of migrating the UI and our design team is also working on a standardized global design system. Until those pieces are fully in place, the UI will have a mixture of new/old. This current Start Page in test was designed prior to the design system so it should not be considered final. At the same time, it’s not really worth the effort to make a brand new UI look like a 2007 interface that we are eventually replacing.

So why not wait until it’s all perfect? Well we actually want feedback from the community before we switch it over to be the default. To that end, would you mind sharing what else you consider “incomplete” about the new Start Page?

(To be clear: there are multiple known issues and missing parts from the new Start Page and I’m not pretending otherwise. But I also can’t wildly guess what everyone considers complete or incomplete)

I suggest also checking out intel drivers, my PC doesn’t have any nvidia software on it.

I will make sure to try this when I get the chance.

I wouldn’t consider it that myself but that was what you kept hinting to in your other posts - although I (and probably many others) would like to see the ‘recent’ menu back.

I understand the menu was due for a replacement eventually and it’s not a bad replacement, but why has all the colour been drained from it? What was wrong with the blue?

honestly i dont dislike the new layout too bad, it is a little bit too simplistic in my opinion, everything has round corners, big padding, alot more color, but nothing to complain about in my book, the only issue i have is that it doesnt really match the style of the rest of the UI and it kinda feels off, like 2 different styles of UI so ill probably stick to using the original UI for now plus theres a lot of missing features still like the quick access bar thing idk what it was called again

and for the plugins tab, the one i was most excited about, its kinda eh, i mean i like the dropdown because now i dont have to spam those scroll buttons, but i also wish you could rearrange which plugins have like the most priority that go up first, or to where you can search for them, and also wheres the manage plugins button, because that was really useful for downloading new plugins and being able to just keep them away without completely removing from your inventory, and i just noticed, what happened to the plugin tabs, where you can open menus made by a single creator and it could have like 3 plugins of theres, that was a really good feature i like because it makes it easier to do certain things, like im an animator and i use moon a lot, so when i open the menu, i usually wanna create a rig using their creator, and its always right there, but now i have to search for each one

all in all i like it but theres many features that are missing and that are needed in my opinion, so as i said i will be sticking to the original UI until i feel like it would be how i like it, and as a developer, i use a lot of plugins, i think i have over 50 rn, so yea

edit: i also just noticed another thing in the plugins tab, it doesnt even show all my plugins, not sure if its a bug, but i was just searching for moon and cant even find it in my plugins anymore, its in my inventory though

Could you please add an option to have it look like the current UI? The new functionallity is fine I guess, but I like the current style better.

That’s not exactly what I mean. I just mean like the current one is more gray, doesn’t have rounded corners etc. I just want them to make an option to keep that, not the entire core of the UI.

How do I resize the navigation & make it shorter?

have it “look like” it, not be it.

thanks, that helps! I like it when I can see my screen the most, than the ui!

no, I don’t think they will recreate the look of old Qt 5 UI elements in a whole different programming language just so that small % can use it (as I’ve said, this is exactly like asking Microsoft employees to add a “Use Windows 7 interface” mode on Windows 11)

if you are talking about making the layout “look like the current UI’s”, then I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to do that once it gets out of beta

2 critiques with this homepage UI:

New file button should just be a white plus sign, the blue looks weird

Please match the topbar and actual UI colors!!!

Yeah, I’m not asking them to change the layout or recreate it. I just want the colours back and maybe some of the original options (like recent games) that they unnecessarily removed.

You can use keyboard shortcuts to save/publish your game:
Ctrl + S → Save (Command + S on Mac)
Alt + P → Publish (Option + P on Mac)

I use these every time, I don’t think I ever used the UI to publish or save. Using Ctrl + S also publishes changes to your scripts when you’re in Live collaboration.

Will it be possible to use this UI design in third-party plugins? I’d love them to match the look of other windows (after the official ones get updated, of course)

any plans to fix the docking area, i hate when dragging a tab and it shows all the available docking areas at once. I rather have it show when I drag the tab near an area just like windows

Its nice and clean but there is a lot of issues, like every time I open studio I have to change the sorting back to Date Created (Descending). With the old UI I have grown to like that work flow but its sad to see it doesn’t save the way you have it. Another issue is the icons take up way too much space it seems now vs the old one. It was nice to see a lot more dev places at once vs the only 15 now. Also the removal of the manual Refresh was kinda annoying to see go.

I also had issues where it just sits there loading every place for up to 30 minutes and not showing stuff at all. Until you closed out of studio fully and reopened a session of it.

The developing side of the new UI needs work in my opinion, as a mac user all of the stuff being pushed up to the top bar part doesn’t work well when its set to auto hide that content. It looks nice but it very much hurts the workflow in having to wait for it to pop up. (if it loads like it should, I have had issues with it not loading in both studio and some adobe platforms that use the same thing.)

Don’t get me wrong it was very much needed for a new UI, I just feel like so much extra stuff was added into it. Also a lot of things moved to places that seem to hurt the workflow more than make it better. Same can be side for how big the in studio top bar area is it takes up a lot of work room space that is needed. I have not tried it on a smaller screen but it seems very big and takes up more room than it should.

A new Recents tab is coming very soon!

With custom tabs, please make sure there is a way to hide the system tabs
I don’t see myself using a Recents tab often/ever.

Sorry things are mixing up in this thread — this is talking about the new Start Page which is currently being tested and not a part of the Beta.

But to answer your comment, yes we will allow at least the hiding of system tabs in the new ribbon.
