You can always, ALWAYS, count on roblox to mess up UI that everybody loved and was used to. It seems roblox’s right now thinks elders are playing so they want to boost EVERY UI BY 175%??
For years its always been messing with the pause menu and everyone hating every weird UI change so now they have reverted it.
More recently it was the catalog, introducing huge bulky buttons that are slow to navigate! And a reminder on who asked for the update, nobody!
Now the studio… Removing 50% of the features on the home tab, why you’re asking?? So they can upscale the UI to ridiculous sizes and space them out ridiculously far!
Okay, surely they know that this will mess up basically every developer and will be toggleable outside of the beta stage right? PROBABLY NOT!? they have done things like this in the past where the fix was the simply turn it off in beta but fast forwards a month or so and oops, toggle is gone, now you’re stuck with it even though every forum on it was talking about how terrible it was!!
What? Buttons are smaller, harder to make out, and yet they take up more space than the previous bigger buttons?? Get this together guys, 80 year olds aren’t making games, people with normal eyesight are.
Basic media literacy grants you the knowledge that the new compact design with multiple options for compactness is coming along with other design changes that have been in the works for a while
Scrolling through the forum will tell you that maybe, but the root post here is the only forum post linked inside of Studio itself, so people are coming to the year old post (myself included) and seeing nothing but the headlines which is that this is the new next gen icon list and immediately getting frustrated, if you are curious the only thing that this top post mentions on compactness is that “Padding, spacing, and layout values are a work in progress” which doesn’t actually say anything about it becoming more compact
I also am on the side of thinking this is strange to be rolling out to people this early for the sake of ‘getting your muscle memory used to it’ if its still in a beta where the UI and therefore UX is gonna change
Scrolling down from the top post will reveal a “Solved” mark with a link to the updated post, which is where the main discussion taking place. The FFlag for the beta link will soon be updated probably to fix the issue you mentioned anyway.
Even though this is not the finalized design, this version is the closest version we have to the final. Therefore if Roblox wants people to get used to the UI more smoothly, they need to release the beta to a broader amount of people by enrolling people automatically to the beta.
If they enabled the Beta closer to the initial release, people would have less time to adapt to the UI.
I suppose I can’t complain since it’s a toggle-able option. (for now… and for how long?)
But it’s just so bloated… and oversimplified like everything nowadays. Is that what “next-gen” is supposed to mean? Why are the buttons colour-coded when they’re in their own separate tabs? I would never choose this over the current format. Call me old-school if you want, but you’d have to force me to use this.
There is way too much padding and overall dead space around so many of the elements in this new UI. There’s also no way to collapse it like the old UI which is very concerning considering how bloated and massive it feels.
cool update, it’s nice that we finally have the agency to make our own tabs to suit whatever scopes of development that one can cover
this tool (or tools) is/are missing from the “add tool” menu (unless i missed it but i searched for “dragger modes”, “move”, “rotate”, “studs” and double-checked the full list) this is slightly inconvenient for builders/environment artists that make their stuff in-house
the only rearrangement options being move left/right respectfully does not cut it
if i wanted to move “game settings” to the leftmost (1st) position in this tab, i’d have to click around 21*2 times and that becomes an ever-scaling nightmare if i wanted to organize more than 1 tool
there should exist some sort of functionality (such as a click-and-drag or standalone reorder interface) to very quickly solve “i want to efficiently move t[#t] to t[1] without my industry-leading creation suite making me click 2*#t times”
an easy fix would be to have a “rearrange tools” submenu that looks something like this:
the padding between buttons is too generous
i’m assuming it’s padded with respect to the text length (which is why long tool names are trimmed) so a fast solution is to add an option to “hide tool text” or “compact mode” that just sets the text to an empty string so that tool tabs dont become a bloated mess
the ootb tools are nicely iconographic and easy to distinguish/recognize so it would be a nice QOL option to have
I have a big problem with this new UI!
Please add the screenshot feature like in the classic studio:
I use it all the time to create icons, thumbnails, game passes, and more!
It screenshots in the resolution of the test device that is selected, I NEED IT.
Please
Can we add a toggle back to the legacy ui? Or atleast improve on this? I do not like this change at all.
The header takes much more space, which is honestly annoying for what looks like holds less that the legacy ui. If you guys had the liberty to compact many things in a few buttons, maybe don’t make the header fatter??
There’s less visible tools, such as the undo/redo buttons… Why?
UI padding is annoyingly bigger for some reason, every single button holds 200000 (exaggeration) more pixels of space for seemingly no reason.
Spacing isn’t as consistent as before, especially with the tabs, which are also unnecessarily larger, and takes 25% more of the docked ribbon for buttons that were able to fit perfectly fine in the legacy ui.
What I liked with the ui
Quick access instance menus, such as constraints, and effects, are much neater than before.
We’re able to customize our toolbar, but I personally have not found any beneficial use for this.
This did not improve my experience with roblox studio, it just had me forced to unnecessarily get used to these new changes that were completely fine as is.
From my long usage of the “Next gen” new studio UI and “Next gen” explorer UI, it’s really awful in terms of workflow - everything has either changed position, changed the way you use them (the studs move number, before you could click the decimal… now you can’t) and is hurt by the old days of talent hub mobile padding.
The UI is awful, sure I get it’s supposed to be the new UI, but it ain’t helping ANYONE.
The old UI was perfectly fine and has worked for so long so well that the positions of buttons are literally in my muscle memory. All this new UI is doing is making things slower for me.
I’m having troubles with plugins, for example i have over 20 plugins and they are just even not showing in the tab section, i can’t scroll it or anything.
i had to go the settings and instantly turn off the setting because my muscle memory is RUINED
oh, and you can’t right click on the toolbar anymore. what a bummer.
Please make it so we have the option to revert to the old UI. The old one works just fine, and it seems unnecessary to create a new one. Like a lot of other developers said, the new update does nothing but mess with our muscle memory.
