I’m making a cartoon-ish game, and it’ll have a bunch of floating islands with one big main island. However, I am struggling with what decor to put in the main island. I’ll put in photos of it’s current state here.
However, there’s a catch with basically everything in the game. It must be cube themed, and it can only be built by cubes, or any part as long as it’s not a sphere, cylinder, or wedge.
What are you attempting to achieve? I’m trying to make a game visually interesting by only using cubes and rectangular prisms.
What is the issue? It is really hard to imagine something visually appealing that is cube-ish in a way.
What solutions have you tried so far? I looked at other random games on Roblox for inspiration, but nothing has popped up into my head.
If anyone can think of something cool that is made out of cubes, or rectangular prisms, and is cube-based, it would be appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: I’m also putting walkways on the sides to the other islands, so space will be pretty limited. I will also put different areas on other islands (Like a park or something), and the main island is just the island where you spawn, so landscape and all that is for other islands. I’m just talking about the main island.
are very simple but they make the space seem more used and filled up as well as being somewhat pleasing to the eyes. Simple rocks and bushed would also be a great idea to add into your main island.
*Edit: I just noticed that you did a triple cube stack in the back of the image, I didn’t see that.
I think the build you have is great. Blocks are quite difficult to accomplish a detailed aesthetic with, but heres what I think ya need.
Height variation
So, if you give the ground some various heights, your going to accomplish a much more random looking terrain. This will give you a nature appeal, and it will also inherently become more aesthetic and interesting because it creates contrast by variation. To take this a step further, try and give more randomness to the corners. I get that you want the island to be a block as well, but it needs a more compound shape.
Cube Size/ Rotation
Right now, you have a limited amount of cubes that cover a certain amount of area. Don’t be afraid to experiment with smaller cubes without perfect parallelism. You’ll still have a blocky style, it will just go into detailing the map with natural imperfections. A metaphor of sorts, you have drawn a face without blemishes, freckles, bumps, or pores. So try and expand and add more and more and it will add layer after layer of blocky complexity to your map.
Inspiration
You can always look outside of ROBLOX; search up LEGO designs, blocky architecture, blocky drawings, and just analyze what you think is interesting about them. Also, look into features of islands: tropical fauna, palm trees, bushes, wooden signs, rocks, beaches, etc.
Anyway, hope you found this useful. Best of luck on your creations! Would love to see the final product, because I think blocky styles are pretty amazing
What I’d to in this situation is look up other sources, try blocky games such as Minecraft, also maybe look at lego, you can get some pretty good ideas from those 2 alone such as how to make grass look interesting by using only cubes and rectangles. Try adding more plants and add trees. Also from what I see from other peoples replies, I agree you should add rocks for a start as it’s fairly simple and easy to make.
