So I’ve been making this slot machine that I was maybe thinking of using in some future games for a money grab. The slot machine TAKES NO MONEY. After each spin you can only win or break even. You can NEVER LOSE.
But if Three wheels appear on screen you get taken to a bonus game where you can possibly win between 5 - 10000. You CANNOT BREAK EVEN from playing, you can only WIN.
This is where the problem comes in. I want to add a developer product that you can pay to play the bonus game instantly through a developer product. I know that the problem with this is I am linking an In-game currency to Robux which links to real world money. But I read somewhere that aslong as you can always gain something from a purchase It is not considered gambling (e.g. an awful common skin in a LootBox).
Seeing as there’s no way to lose from a Robux purchase I was wondering if this is technically allowed. Even if its Casino themed.
This is the slot so far, I don’t want to continue development of it if it will just get taken down immediately.
If the game is taken down by Roblox themselves, surely I could just remove the feature and re-upload. Although I’m not sure if games are allowed to be re-uploaded once content deleted.
Is the amount you pay for the dev product relative to the amount of currency you get?
What I mean by this is if the amount of currency is less than you would get, for example, purchasing the currency directly, then yes, this would be against the ToS. However, if you are getting the same or more currency than buying it directly, then no, this would be perfectly fine.
This is all because of this: If you’re purchasing the currency as an exchange for robux, you are guaranteed that currency. Now if you aren’t guaranteed that currency, then it would be gambling; which is against the ToS.
Now that the player knows they will get the same amount of currency as they would purchasing the currency, (or possibly more), they will be more inclined to spend that robux. I’d even say 5 or 10 robux more for the product seems fair, as they have a pretty good chance of getting more currency. This would, of course, be a gamble, however, they aren’t losing any robux. (Most of the time, they will gain more currency, meaning they made robux.)
So no, this shouldn’t be against the ToS. You kind of have to look between the lines. Now, of course, I don’t want to be held accountable if you do get banned. So continue at your own risk. However, use what info I gave you above as you wish.
One rule is that you can’t have a gambling system with robux. So I guess this part isn’t gambling, since you always are rewarded. But then I feel like it’s slightly misleading. Say a kid plays the game, and is winning so much in this new roblox game he found; so he goes out with his mom’s credit card and out to a casino thinking the same thing would happen? Maybe that’s unrealistic, idk.
It might be worth adding a layer transparent pricing for your robux purchases, e.g:
5 robux - 5 currency + 0 bonus rolls
10 robux - 10 currency + 0 bonus rolls
100 robux - 110 currency + 3 bonus rolls
220 robux - 250 currency + 10 bonus rolls
etc. You’re then offering a base rate and the user never receives less than expected on that flat rate. Even if the bonus rolls suck, they haven’t been “scammed” out of their robux. They didn’t pay to gamble, but they got a bonus as a thanks for their purchase. The currency / bonus roll ratio is always subject to change, but at the end of it, you’re no longer breaking the ToS as you’re offering a flat rate between robux and currency with a bonus roll on top.
I don’t think I’ll have any currency for purchase, I think I’ll make it so the only way to earn currency is by buying things like bonuses / faster spins / auto spins etg. Therefore not defining any value to the in-game currency.
Depending on how you implement it I think it’ll be okay if you’re very careful to avoid people allowing to use robux to gamble in the game in any way. I think selling mechanics such as faster spinning speed and auto spins are okay, but I’m not so sure about selling a mechanic that grants bonus currency. I guess that would depend if you’re able to lose that currency bonus or if it’s a permanent buff, I think it’d be okay if it was a permanent buff though.
But I think for peace of mind that impressionable 9 year old Timmy isn’t going to play the game, think that you always win on online slot machines, and then takes his mother’s credit card to find a gambling site, I would both add an age recommendation setting of 13+ as well as a disclaimer that heavily advises against gambling with real money or trying to copy anything seen in the game.
