How long is temporary?

Over half a year has passed and my games still have virtually zero presence on search engines. These are the top search results for one of my games (which has accumulated over a billion sessions).

Frankly I’m surprised people are even finding it. A large portion of traffic comes from YouTube and socials - both of which, as far as I’m aware, doesn’t have a Roblox search bar haha. Just makes me wonder how many potential players I’m losing.

Inspecting roblox.com/robots.txt (the file every site has that is used by search engines to block certain links from appearing) reveals that they actually seem to have re-listed it (/games, /catalog, /library no longer appears), but search engines haven’t quite caught up yet. I don’t know how recently they did this but hopefully it shouldn’t take more than a month for Google and others to get up to date.

Bing finally shows games but. It doesn’t show the game name it shows Roblox

When you click on that link it takes you to Arsenal game page, but I wished it would show

Arsenal - Roblox
instead of just
Roblox

If you read the URL it shows that it links to the sign up page but if your logged in it will redirect to Arsenal.

I know its in the Url but i wished it showed in the text above the url

That is because the search ‘crawlers’ are getting redirected to that page which has the title of the page being ‘Roblox’.

This Bug isn’t important as people normally use roblox page to search games.

But for people who don’t play Roblox, it is good for attracting new players and discovery. It is very important. It turns people who do not know what Roblox is, to long term players, who play multiple games and engage in the community

I find this decision (as Roblox Staff confirmed it was just temporary, but they never re-enabled it back) very frustrating. I see most of the people just simply filling in the game name in Google because of its efficiency.

Steps if game discovery in search engines is enabled:

  1. Fill in the game name in the browser bar.
  2. Press the game link.
  3. Play.

Now:

  1. Go to roblox.com
  2. Fill in the game name in the search bar.
  3. Click on “search in experiences”
  4. Have a good time actually finding the actual game and not a copy.
  5. Click play.

More time wasted on finding the game → Less playtime → Less likely to convert in purchasing customer → Decrease in revenue.

The few seconds is a decrease in revenue, the earlier it’s solved, the better the revenue.

Finally! I can look for classic Obbies and other games we want to play without having to sift through the endless sea of duplicate, ripoff, irrelevant, etc. results! Also, Google has better search tools that Roblox really needs to beat such as searching between dates! And links turn purple on Google once they’re visited, allowing us to keep track of where we’ve visited!

how has this not been solved, its so irritating. i just want to find new games to play. game discovery on roblox is terrible, as well as their awful search bar. for example if you put any string of words and then put tycoon in it, it will show you random tycoons that have nothing to do with your full search. you cant qoute search, you cant exclude search, you cant search by date, its completely impractical.

Hi all, thanks for bumping the thread!

We checked internally and this has been resolved as of June 2021. At that time we re-enabled search engines to index experiences after we addressed various inconsistencies between on vs off-platform search results. Search engines have been showing Roblox experiences again after we made this change.

Please Note:

  • Significant engagement is required for an experience to be eligible for search indexing.
  • This only affected off-platform search and not on-platform experience search.
