Not in love with deploy screen UI

I’ve been making this deploy screen, and I’m not totally in love with it for some reason and I can’t place my finger on it.

Its for my side project I’ve been working on and off for about a year, I’m planning to add more levels and this is the deploy screen:

I want some tips, something to make it better, idrk.

(the character with a shotgun has an animation, there’s a blur in the background, and the character rotates when you press play btw so dont suggest those)

i mean it’s a deploy screen, why wouldn’t the play button say deploy? being brutally honest, its bland, doesn’t have its style, and why is the play button so “simulator” like? it should fit the rest of the gui and not be all green, and it’s pretty big too. and also is there not like any settings or something

Any ideas to spice it up? This is my first crack at it so tbh idk what to add, I’ll try to tinker around with it and make it look a bit better. Edit: the button is so simulator esc because I don’t know what to really do with it

alright so my ideas are:

for the play button try to put it on the side and not make it as rounded and more materialistic and typically the settings button and other things like that are under it

for the character put him on the side of the screen instead of the middle so you have more room to put the gui, and i would recommend it not on the same side as the play button

for the gun kits i would have a button that would bring you to a different menu so you have more space to work with if you ever want to add more kits and stuff like that (also i would suggest putting it under the play button!)

i like the fact that the background is blurred but you should add slight tilting for wherever the mouse moves

It doesnt have much detail to it. Maybe some kind of background, and make the Character do some kind of pose. Where it shows the weapons also looks kind of bland NGL.

Hope you can figure it out!
Ps I wanna see how it looks afterwards if possible

Took some of your suggestions, IMO it looks ALOT better. I took some inspiration from the arsenal menu, I think it added a little bit. (I’m still displaying weapons next to the character so you can easily see what you have equipped)

the character does pose in playtesting, this is just outside of playtesting as its easier to take a screenshot while not being attacked. (look above for result btw)

Some things I see.
The character only takes up part of the image size so it seems small.
The gun pointing down into the ground annoys me.
The width of the UI seems to be to wide for the items in it which seems like a waste of space.
Why not place the items vertically on one side and make the character much taller on the opposite side so it fills more of the space.

I think you should add some backgrounds for each section, unless that conflicts with the style of your game. Like this:

This is just a reference image though, I made it in 5 seconds in Photoshop, don’t try to make it exactly like this lol.

I was basing it off arsenals one, ill tinker around with this idea for a bit because it might be good
