This may happen when you have a notification in a private message that was taken down by moderation later on. You should be able to clear all notifications to get around this. We have no appetite to fix this bug since it occurs in the forum software that we use for the forum (not in our own code modifications) and due to the edge case conditions for this to occur at all.

All participants in private messages must abide by forum rules and moderator instructions, which naturally avoids this issue.
