"Notify me when someone I follow posts in..." feature request

I don’t believe this is a topic but correct me if I’m wrong.

This topic is more specifically for #resources:community-tutorials. As a Roblox developer, I like to find tutorials that can be beneficial to me. And sometimes, some people make multiple tutorials regularly that I like, and I would like to follow them to get notifications from them so I can view their newest tutorials.

That’s where the problem occurs…

I’m aware that to get notifications when a user posts, you must follow them. However, I don’t want to get notifications for every single post and reply they make—just posts for their tutorials.

My original idea before this was sub-categories. Users could make their own categories not visible on the site and only visible to those who want to follow it. People could make their own tutorial categories (ex. “TheSuzerain’s Tutorials”), and then people could get notifications for just that.

However, after some thought (and reading this topic), I’ve changed my mind on this idea. One apparent reason is the obvious spam/abuse that this feature would bring. People would most likely find excuse categories to make to fool around (ex. “TheSuzerain’s Talk About Anything Category”).

I’ve also looked in the notification settings to see if anything could match what I’m looking for, and the closest thing I could find was “Notify me when someone I follow posts.” Which clears most of the notifications, but I’ll still get it for other topics that they post in.

That’s when the idea sprung to me. What if a notification setting could notify a user when someone they follow posts in a specific category? That’s when I came up with “Notify me when someone I follow posts in…”

If this feature were to be added, it would be an excellent replacement for Sub-Categories and allow me (and everyone else) to follow only specific user’s tutorials.

I would love feedback on what other people would think of this.

I personally changed it so it only notifies me when they create a new topic. This feature could be useful but idk if discourse is able to do it as this a plugin.
