Oceaú - Managing Ban Appeals

Managing Ban Appeals

As a member of the Leadership Team, one of your responsibilities is to monitor and read through ban appeals. You are expected to familiarize yourself with the Ban Appeal Process in our community, and you’re expected to deliver appeal decisions appropriate to individual appeals.

Discord Bans

For any and all bans related to discord, the appeal filing process is automated through our Circle premium BOT. When a user is banned from our discord server, they will be DM’d a link to file a ban appeal should they be interested in appealing.

The user will receive the following message:

Circle Premium [APP]
Case (Case #) - You have been banned from Oceaú.
Reason: (Reason here)

The user will be prompted to click “Appeal your ban,” and forwarded to a Discord login screen to allow the Circle Premium BOT to access their account. The individual MUST click “Authorize.” There, the user will be able to fill out the ban appeal form.

Clicking “SUBMIT” will submit the ban appeal to the #ban-appeals discord channels under the moderation category. The user will be prompted with “Are you sure you want to submit?”

The user will be told their appeal has officially been submitted.

When a new ban appeal is submitted, the BOT will send the appeal to the #ban-appeals discord channel. You will have to click “Manage Appeals” to view the appeal on the Circle dashboard.

You should be brought to the “Pending Appeals” tab, where you will see all active pending appeals.

You can view the user’s moderation history by clicking “MODERATION HISTORY.” Example →

If you accept the ban appeal, the user will be automatically unbanned, and the appeal will be archived.
You should see an “Appeal accepted” notification in the #ban-appeals channel to verify this was successful.

Other Bans

For any ban that is not a Discord server ban, appeals must be filed through the community appeal form.

Approving Ban Appeals

If the individual really took time to complete their ban appeal, and depending on the severity of the events that resulted in their ban, their ban may be approved.

  • The appeal must have been submitted 48 hours after the initial ban occurred.
  • The user has not asked for the status of their appeal, or reached out about their appeal.
  • The user has their discord DM’s enabled (optional). If the user’s DM’s are enabled, they will receive a written decision. Otherwise they will find out if they try to rejoin the server.
  • The user must have provided their discord name for a discord ban appeal, or roblox username for any other appeals.
  • The user only submitted one appeal request.
Denying Ban Appeals

There are multiple ways a ban appeal should be denied. If the individual puts no effort into their ban appeal, or lacks foundation in regards to why we should approve their ban appeal, then their ban will be denied, however there is flexibility.

  • The appeal was submitted prior to 48 hours after their initial ban occurred.
  • The user has asked for a status or reached out to a staff member about their appeal.
  • The user did not provide their Roblox username, or Discord username (discord bans).
  • The user submitted multiple appeal requests.
  • The user submitted a second appeal after their initial appeal was decided before waiting one week after their last appeal decision was given.
    • Users MUST wait a minimum of one week after a ban was denied before submitting a new ban appeal.

This is the official guide to managing ban appeals on the Leadership Team at Oceaú.
