As a developer it is currently hard to get good background music for games. You can either upload music yourself, which can cost a lot of robux when adding many of them up due to the moderation. Alternatively, you can try to find a song that has already been uploaded, but its oftentimes hard to find something fitting and the uploads are oftentimes a bit sketchy.
You might know him for his top 50 really overused songs, but Kevin MacLeod offers almost 1300 songs that are all perfect for use as background music in games in many genres and styles, all with a CC-BY license. I wrote him an email once and he told me it was fine to upload the songs to roblox and that he is interested in the platform itself.
I hope that this would encourage more and better use of background music while making the process a bit easier, and I dont think you can really say no to a huge, free/cheap song library of songs that have always made the typical roblox music style.
So yeah, I hope this post sort of fits into this category because theres no apparent place for it, except for that, here is a link to his website if you want to check him out.
Yes. I’m reviving this because it’s been three years, and this deserves more notice. It’s literally free. I’m sure there’ll have to be some contact with MacLeod, but he seems like a great guy that actually responds to emails sent to him, and he appears (at least, according to this post) to be interested in ROBLOX. No offense to APM, but some of the stuff he’s made is honestly better than APM’s very commerical-sounding advertisement music.
I’m bringing this post back because firstly, it’s free, and secondly Kevin Macleod’s music has a wide range of variety and themes that can fit essentially any Roblox game. It would only take a short script made by a Roblox employee to make to important all of the Kevin Macleod songs and credit him properly. It’s essentially a no brainer to do this, additionally, games which were using Kevin Macleod music before The Great Audio Banwave™ will be able to use the music again putting the game back to its original state.
I get that the music here is under a creative commons license but Roblox will probably want to get their own license (along the lines of CC, since its a perpetual license).
it appears the distrokid uploads now that are being put on roblox for people to use includes kevin macleod, but only yesterday have they started uploading the kevin macleod music so there isnt the WHOLE catalog of his music including his most famous ones, but i imagine they’re gonna upload a good amount of them soon.
