Old UGC item thumbnail redrawn with new lighting; UGC Asset thumbnail crop affected, no longer appears as it did at time of creation

Hello, I am a UGC creator on Roblox. I decided to check over some of my legacy items after noticing some significant changes to other creators’ non-PBR accessory thumbnails, and discovered that a few of my early item thumbnails now have quite a discrepancy with their original appearance. Note that the affected items on the left previously had the same lighting and crop as the items on the right, which have not received an update at this time.

The crop of the item is no longer centered, the lighting on the item is way too harsh and tinted slightly blue, which does not represent how my item actually appears

The lighting on the item is way too harsh and washes out the appearance of the item, which is not an accurate representation of how my item actually appears

As a creator, this is hugely concerning because I depend on my UGC item thumbnails to display my item’s look in an an aesthetically pleasing and objectively accurate manner; these new changes to my legacy non-PBR item thumbnails do not accurately represent how they appear, and there is no way for creators like myself to update item thumbnails after upload. These changes negatively affect the appearance of my items in thumbnails, and may turn users away from buying items that my business depends upon selling. Items that creators depend on for an income should never have such a significant change in thumbnail appearance that could affect the sales performance.

I have also noticed a few other large discrepancies in UGC item appearance in other creators’ thumbnails, for which I have provided some comparisons in updated and original appearances above. I encourage other creators that have noticed these to make a reply to this thread with links to their own UGC items.

Expected behavior

Legacy, non-PBR UGC item thumbnails should always appear the roughly the same as they did at the time of upload, and accurately represent the appearance of the item within experience, regardless of thumbnailer updates.

I have the same issue, its so bad on my darker shaded items

Looking through my UGC thumbnails, the only one which became noticeably brighter is my Blue Birthday Party Hat. Not sure why it’s not affecting the others though. My other Birthday Party Hats look the same as when I uploaded them.
