One of a kind building game

Hey, I made a building game that has one map, where everything is saved as if its one persistent world.

Features

Now not only that, but the map is infinite, with biomes and more. And this isn’t even all! The game has theoretically infinite player support, yes you heard that right, one map, infinite players. To achieve that, and to allow for the infinite map, it is split up into multiple servers. I wont go into more detail on that.

Limitations

One may ask “what about the 4mb datastore limit” That has been taken care of. The only limiting factor as of right now is the amount of blocks in a single chunk/server. Which isn’t any issue now, but if it ever becomes one, I’ve got several solutions to that.

Conclusion

I’m looking forward to continuing on this game, I don’t want it to be just another tech demo, I’m slowly but surely turning it into more of a game every update.

This is a very creative and influential game idea, as it combines elements from previous block games and enhances them. Unlike other block games I see how this can promote longevity in your player bases.

I appreciate the idea of infinite servers, although this is a daunting task. I do believe it can be done with technical skill and ability.

Three main problems arise when I see this idea though.

  1. How will you keep track of infinite player structures? Will there be a grouping system for the players? If there is no grouping system would the game group items automatically to preserve memory?

  2. With infinite territory how will players find their own structures? Or the structures of their friends?

  3. How will you prevent inappropriate content? If players dont group their items reporting would be difficult, and deleting inappropriate structures would be even harder.

The infinite servers are already in place, might have been vague on that.

  1. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by this, I don’t have any system in place to track specific structure. All blocks in the entire chunk/server are saved together if thats what you are asking about.

  2. There is a teleport system, but i plan on adding in a way to favourite certain coordinates, and have a “Spawn at last location” type of button in the main menu. I have also been considering the possibility of having players be able to build certain structures to act as waypoints, that either anyone, friends, or just you can tp to.

  3. I’m not too worried about moderation, take a read here: Safety of Farlands I can quickly clear all blocks placed by a user in a matter of seconds.
