As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to create verbose descriptions on API keys under the Open Cloud tab. Earlier today I was cycling out old API keys and cleaning up our organization. While attempting to add some general descriptive information to keys, I noticed that the description is for some reason filtered? This prevented me from putting the word ‘Github’ as part of the description.
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because users and groups that manage large amounts of API keys often need descriptions to provide details to other developers on a project. If common websites such as Github are filtered we have resort to usage of acronyms, or vague statements that can be attributed to multiple services, which is not ideal in situations where we need to be very precise.
Hey, thanks for posting about your problem. We generally will need to text filter these as the content shows up for other users in groups. While we could special-case user-owned API keys, this is not something we normally do and could create other problems in certain edge cases, and also it won’t solve all of your problem most likely (assuming you are using API keys in groups).
I’ll bring up your inconvenience internally. It’s not likely we can remove the text filter here. My thought is that we would need a tailored mode of text filtering that is suitable for Open Cloud descriptions like this, but this would take some significant time and effort to get sorted, so I am not sure if we can prioritize that any time soon compared to other projects we want to work on.
Just wanted to acknowledge your problem for transparency even though we won’t be able to immediately address. Thanks again for posting and apologies for the inconvenience here.
Thank you for the explanation! I understand the situation, and hope we can eventually get a tailored filter for API keys that is less restrictive towards external service names.
