As any who have been following my development journey may know, in 2021 I released the first Star Wars: Sabers Unleashed game after being inspired by the game Lightsaber Battles 2 by Serphos. Now, nearly three years after the release of the second game, I have released the third and final installment of the series.
Sabers Unleashed 3 spent nearly 3 years in development by me, and went through three rescripts (one of which I released as the open source Sabers Unleashed 2.5). When I began working on the series, I had far more time available to me to work on my projects and wasn’t as occupied. Fast forward to now, I am as busy as ever and hardly have had time nor motivation to work on the project. Sabers Unleashed 3 culminates all of my major ideas for this type of combat into one, and emphasizes what I believe to be the best version of it, as it emphasizes many of the glaring issues previously and truly builds upon the original ideas I laid out.
That is to say though, Sabers Unleashed 3 is not and likely will not ever be finished. I rushed the final product out the door because I simply ran out of motivation and time to complete it to its full potential. After working on the same lock on combat system for 4 years I am simply burnt out of it and wanting to try something new. Sticking with the theme of my previous post however, Sabers Unleashed 3 is open source on launch. I hope that its features can help with anyone looking to develop these types of combat systems on the platform.
Some of its notable features are
Vastly Improved customization menu with previews
Main menu support and map loading support
Virtually every saber type imaginable with stats and features
AI storm troopers that react, shoot, and chatter
ATAT Walker that is fully animated and star fighters
Full 360 degree guard wheel
Mobile/Touch support
Dynamic Rumble and Haptic feedback for controller as well as full controller support
Fully completed clashing system with finishers, music, and sudden death
Cut VFX
And many other features not outlined here.
Sabers Unleashed was a great series to work on and while it may not have an epic send off I am happy with what I have developed and look forward to seeing how others in the community use my work. All I ask is that you credit me so that others may find it.
Thanks everyone
