Operation Metro - Preview

Hi everyone! Decided we’re at a point in this project where we should start getting some early feedback n our early stage of development. This game is named ‘Operation Metro’, heavily inspired by a few games including the infamous story line of the book/game Metro2033. This game takes place between the mid 90s-early 2000s after, long story short, a bio-nuclear war breaks out. The immense bio-chemicals and radiation over the years have turned the animals and beings into mutant monsters. Humanity now hides beneath the ground in the old metro and sewage stations, in the first section of this story the game takes place in the USSR.

So now that we got the basic story line of the game done, let me brief you on how game play will work.

Essentially this is a survival based game. You must work either solo, or as a team to find the escape/evac point, the maps however are large and break up into dozens or rooms and the evac location changes per match. You can collect loot nearly everything from lockers, to crates, to finding keys to open containers and safes… You can then sell and trade the loot and items found for ammo, money, or weapons to fight against the mutants.

For alpha release we have two maps all designed and ready to go, here’s a preview of em’. Note that the map names have not been picked yet; however both do take place inside the soviet metros. From the 3rd map onward we plan on expanding to the outside and different areas based in real life, and in future DLC even expand to different countries.

On top of this, we have a wide selections of weapons, both real-life 90s (and previous) styled military and civilian weapons, and a lot of new custom makeshift weapons. All which are fully customization, everything form the magazine to the barrel, muzzle, sights and stock. We don’t wish to spoil much so I won’t show this feature yet! We do assure that there is a very large selection of lootables, crafting, and customization in the game though!

Another very interesting feature in this game is the characters. The game is heavily story driven. Our idea was to bring the characters to life, giving each their own set of outfits, faces, and voice actors. We’re actually hosting a art/render contest for anyone interested, we’re selecting 6 (for now) of the top entered original characters and including them as official characters in the game, with a grand prize of $100! click bellow for more details!

Was just hoping to receive some feedback on the game and ideas, maybe you guys could pitch in some of your own ideas as to what you’d like to see? If you’d like to join the official discord to keep up to date with the contests/game progress feel free! Discord

Here’s a few more videos of the game progress thus far. This project is being built and modeled by myself, coded by U7K/Refactor, and UI designed professionally by doctr_oof. Music soundtrack is in the progress being done by @BSlickMusic and all character clothing and outfits will be done by the legendary @vibed

The maps look awesome so far as well as the guns! I think this will be an interesting game and I can’t wait to play it for myself. The vibe kind of reminds me of Fallout 4 meets Blackops Zombies.

I am wondering though:
How big will server sizes be?
Will you lose progress or lootables when you die?
If you kill another player will you be able to get their loot like Falloutish?

Also, I’m wondering what the core gameplay loop be like. Does escaping have some sort of incentive for the user, and if so, how will you make users keep coming back to play?

I think one thing you should consider, although only a secondary feature, is definitely being able to teleport to your friends and forming official teams in-game. This would make strategy and teamwork a fundamental element of survival.

Last, as a more technical feature, it would be cool if elements of the map were only seen in different camera modes. (i.e. thermal sight, night vision, etc.) So maybe if you’re in a dark tunnel, you could only have seen the door to a hidden room with night vision or thermal. I think this type of feature would align well with the whole survival / tactical nature of the gameplay.

Overall though this game looks like it has amazing quality already and lots of potential.

To answer your question:

Servers will be up to 6 players for now. We will have an 8 player 4v4 server later on. You can join solo or invite one, two, up to 5 other friends or join in on a server that’s just started (that was people arn’t joining while a game is half over)

There’s two inventories in the game, one is at the menu where it keeps all your items such as weapons, lootables, bags, etc. The second inventory is that of what you are carrying into the match. Say you take a helmet, armor, large bag with some medical supplies and one gun, if you die in-game you will lose those things. If however you survive, you can keep them along with everything else you collected. Your main menu inventory will not be erased no matter how much you die.

For now we won’t be having PvP simple until we can work out the kinks, we do want this to be a team-based game. As said before though, we do plan on having team verses mode!
