So, my friend likes the blue version of this but I don’t know what one is better. Can someone help comment on which one looks better/if theres any better color combinations I can use/how to improve.
The blue ui looks better except make the Enter Answer Here in a darker color. The grey on grey one is just too dark in my opinion.
You want your GUI to attract attention. Lack of color is simply lack of color. Black & White televisions died a long time ago for a reason. People find color pleasing. You should lean towards pastels. Look at Pokemon-Go, they are using some of the most advanced color theory. You can also look at Fortnight. They also use pastels. Avoid primary colors. They overwhelm the user. Also a large percentage of males are colorblind to some degree.
Here is a link to some research on the topic.
I know you want as large an audience as possible, so you may want to work from a color blind friendly palette.
Because the target age of Roblox is 8-14 a lot of this audience may be color blind and not know it. You will find that these palettes are a great guide on color usage.
Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind when making other GUIs as I often only use shades not colours when making GUIs.
Both looks okay but having a background image would better.
I would like to add on, using transparent white/black text usually results in more clear text than gray text on colored backgrounds.
Example (using the same colors from screenshot 2):
(I would make the text even less transparent than the text on the right, but you get the idea.)
I believe the approach you took for the design overall wasn’t good. I’ve created a mock-up for you. Try re-creating it into studio.
If I had to choose, I would choose the blue one, but the text color would need to be changed. It’s hard to read that grey color with the blue background - I’d recommend making it white text as well.
Imo tho, Idk if I like either of them. I just don’t think the blue works incredibly well with the grey background - I feel the background would have to be darker grey.
The initial grey ui is too much grey, so I do think you should stick with the blue, but change some of the other colors, such as text, and the background. c:
Yes, like many others have said above, I personally like the blue UI. The gray one looks like it is disabled (sort of like how some buttons are disabled on websites). One thing I’d like to say about the blue UI is the text. Gray looks very hard to read on blue so I suggest changing it to a darker version of the blue of the text box.
Other than that, your UIs look very nice .
I prefer the blue one, but I think you need to polish some stuff up.
For example:
- Make the “Enter Answer Here…” easier to read
- I would make the Apply button a smaller with a separate color instead of one large button.
Remember, use colors to your advantage! The reason I picked the blue one even though the text does not really add to the UI is because it looks more interesting then a dull grey element.
Other then that, there is not much to change in my opinion.
Thanks! I’ll make sure to try that out. I do also agree that my design is a bit bland.
