As a Roblox developer it is currently too hard to add dynamic rays for night time lighting and is actually impossible (unfortunately). This is the case, unless you instead configure daytime lighting by changing sun texture to a moon version and adjust your skybox to a night time setting AND configure lighting settings to match a night time version. I would suggest a (i think) easy studio addition which is to add a “MoonRays” object that can also be inserted onto lighting in order for us to create some nice volumetric moon light rays during night time!
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because it would add a fast and efficient way of adding some extra spice to the night skies in your projects and really get that crisp effect you are looking for. Hopefully an addition like this wouldnt be too much of a hassle as you guys already developed a system for this, and i personally think it would add a lot to the realism and art direction of some projects!
Totally agree. Though I’d say instead of having a seperate MoonRays object, just add a toggle inside of the existing SunRays object called something like AffectsMoon or similar.
Somewhat off-topic, but this post also made me think of another cool feature which would be really nice; the ability to change the gradient of the day/night colors. At the moment, it’s all hardcoded, but I’d love to be able to be able to make the sunrise/sunsets to be… not so yellow.
In general, the procedural skybox coloring system in place is pretty awful. Sunsets and sunrises are too short (i think), the colors are weird, and also not everything gets affected! I’d love to be able to make the atmosphere turn the sky red at sunset. To be honest, the atmosphere object also kinda sucks in that regard. Ahh, I keep going off topic!!!
Anyway, totally agree. Moonrays are really nice. I hope Roblox will be as well, and grant us this feature.
