It’s coming.

Hey, Tycoons!

In preparation for the Ore Tycoon 2 version 2.8 Beach Getaway Update releasing this June 2, 2021 10:00 AM (UTC+8), we’d like to inform everyone of the following upcoming major changes that are either of great interest or may cause confusion:

1. Level Reset
In Version 2.8, players who are at Level 17 and above will have their levels reset to 16. Refinery progress will not be reset, and players who already completed the Floor 1 of the Island Expansion may immediately purchase the Floor 2 of the Island Expansion.
Because of the level reset, we will be also resetting the refinery upgrades and the NeoOrbs of all affected players, free of charge. They will also be awarded a great amount of Tycoon Bux as compensation.

2. Research Upgrades Reset
In Version 2.8, the following research upgrades had changes in prices:

  • Inverter Technology
  • Limit Disregard

As such, we will be resetting the Research Upgrades and NeoOrbs of everyone who had these upgrades on their account, free of charge. This will be automatically done upon joining a server after the 2.8 Update launches.

3. Ore Limits
In Version 2.8, there will be huge changes to Ore Limits. The changes are as follows:

  1. “Show Ore Limit on corner of the screen” will be the default setting moving forward. Everyone who had this setting disabled or untouched before the update will have this enabled in Version 2.8. If you wish to redisable this setting, you may do so once the update releases.
  2. The Base Maximum Ore Limit will be decreased from 500 → 150. This will also be the default ore limit for new players.
  3. The total increase in ore limit by Limit Disregard levels will be changed in the upcoming update:
    • Limit Disregard max level will be 20 (however, the last five levels are currently unachievable)
    • Level 1 - 9 Limit Disregards will now increase your Ore Limit by 25 (previously 50)
    • Level 5, and levels 10+ will increase the Ore Limit by 50
    • Levels 15 and 20 will increase the Ore Limit by 75

4. Science Boxes
Currently, Science Boxes are awarded at Level 2 and at every level that is a multiple of 5 (5, 10, 15, …). However, this will be changed in Version 2.8: A Science Box will be awarded for reaching levels 2, 4, 6, 8, and so on. These will be awarded retroactively.

5. Island Progression
Since the Research N’ Achievements update, one of the most requested changes by players is for an improvement in the Island Expansion’s progression. We are happy to announce that this has finally been implemented in Version 2.8. Sorry it took this long!

There have been drastic changes in pricing and ore worth in the parts of the Island Expansion that felt sluggish to players. We have also added new excavators to replace a few mines at the middle of the first floor of the Island. We hope that these changes will satisfy everyone’s expectations for the Island Progression change!

Besides the first floor progression changes, the progression in the second floor of the Island Refinery will be different from the traditional progression. Unlike the first floor of the Island Refinery which you can brute-force into completion at Level 10, segments of the second floor are locked to levels between 15 to 20. This means that you cannot reach the end of the second floor at Level 15, even if you wanted to. If you don’t see a button that lets you progress further in the next update, you probably need to Research to unlock that segment!

6. Gamepad Controls
Gamepad controls have been improved in the next version. However, please do note that the gamepad control improvements are very unfinished and will be further improved on the second part of the update. To avoid confusion, we would like to inform all players that use gamepads to play Ore Tycoon 2 about the following changes:

  • The descriptions of items will be automatically displayed when selecting items in the Catalog and the Inventory screens
  • The Purchase/Equip button is no longer selectable; pressing the A Button will equip, unequip, or purchase the selected item (vs. having to select an item and selecting the “Purchase button”)
  • There is currently NO confirmation dialogue when purchasing items in the Catalog (this will be added in a future update)
  • You can no longer switch screens in the Shop/Inventory menu by selecting the buttons; instead, L1 and R1 will be used to cycle between the screens

We are aware of the current state of gamepad controls in Ore Tycoon 2 and would like to apologize for the slow progress. Please wait for further announcements with regards to gamepad control improvements.

7. Armor
Currently, armor will only reduce damage from bullets if it actually hits the armor itself. This means that if bullets hit below the shoulder plate, this damage will not be reduced. However, this can be buggy depending on your character (some characters, for example, have complex shapes whose hitboxes may stick out or even outsize the armor). Because of this, armor in Version 2.8 will reduce any bullet damage that hits the player, even if it visually doesn’t hit the armor itself. Damage from leg shots and arm shots will be reduced, even if the armor visually only covers the torso.
Armor will however not reduce headshot damage (leave it to helmets!)

8. Ore Worth Labels
As of right now, ore worth labels are only available for VIP players. Earlier this year, we announced an intention to change this via Twitter into something that can be unlocked for free through Research upgrades. We wanted to include this feature in the Beach Getaway update, but due to time constraints this feature will be launched at a future update. Even though this is technically not a part of the update releasing this Wednesday, we wanted to include this in this post as an answer to the growing number of feedbacks expressing interest to this change. Hold on just a little bit longer, Tycoons!

And that’s all that we have for today! See you all on June 2! :happy4:
