I was thinking of making frames or images having a nice effect, such as white shine going over through the image, overlaying it over transparent background - glance at the example for more clarification. Is there anyway to do such an effect that does anything like that, avoiding the transparent background and only overlays certain images? Or fading the text by blocking it - not with transparency? Here is an example:

Scroll down to “Shine” and it will teach you how to create a shine effect via UIGradients.
