[Paying $250] Maps for our game, Robber

We need maps built for our new game. The game that the map is for is called Robber. Gameplay focuses on a team of robbers and a team of guards. Robber’s have to breach the building, complete their objective and escape. Currently objectives are simple as stealing gems and getting out.

You can give the game a try, after you play for about 10 minutes you will entirely understand what a map needs, but here’s sort of like a checklist.

  • Plenty of points of entry for robbers
  • Vents
  • Roof access for robbers
  • Armory
  • 2 Locked “vaults”
  • A circuit room
  • A control room for guards

You have a lot of creative freedom, it can be themed around a bank, a school, the whitehouse, just about anything. It really doesn’t have to make much sense. There will be map-specific objectives once we get to that point. Make sure, if you are interested and have an idea for a theme, DM me on devforum with your theme and I can approve it.

I also don’t mind purchasing existing builds, as long as they are un-usued in any other game. Just shoot me a dm.

Looks interesting. I played for a little while and I’m not sure if I’ll try make a map since I’ve got some other stuff I’m working on but I did want to leave some feedback from a first-time player.

  • First thought is that it’s quite dark at times, which can be understandable, though what annoys me is that there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when lights turn on or off, or is that just people controlling the lights manually? Also seems a bit odd that you can’t have all the lights on at once before there’s a security threat.

  • Apparently there’s a circuit room but I’ve only seen it once and that was when I was randomly walking around and I couldn’t find it again after that. So some easier way to tell where some of the important rooms are would be nice, or maybe a way to view a building’s layout since I actually have no idea what the full layout of the current map is. (Update: found the circuit room but I still have no idea how to fix the power if it goes out)

  • I got to be a robber once and I found that I guess you have to click on the grates or something like that to open them though I’m not sure if there was a tool I was holding that let me do it or not. maybe have some UI or something that appears over vents when you mouse over them to tell you what button or whatever you need to press to open them. (Update: I played again and found you have to hold down “E” when touching the door in order to open it, still not entirely sure how opening vents works)

  • I made it to the safe or vault or whatever it is though I had no idea how to open it and I ended up getting shot and dying there. Same as vents, maybe have some UI that pops up when you hover over it with a quick note on how to open it if it’s not already open.

  • Some quick notes on the UI, I understand it’s probably not final but there’s no “back” button when you go to the crates section of the shop.

  • Perks don’t seem to work at all though I’m assuming they’re still under development?

  • Also, as of writing this particular note I hopped in again to look at the UI and I realized I’d somehow missed that there were two computers in the security room and that one was for surveillance, not sure how you want to differentiate them but it might be a good idea to look into making each of those computers unique in some way.

  • The UI text. Please please please use a different font. You do appear have the back-end framework which is awesome but it might be a good idea to look at updating some of the UI. What would be cool is if for like the computer that controls the lights there’s a mini-map of the building and the buttons for each section are positioned over that part of the building so it’s clear where the light’s you’re controlling are.

  • If SWAT always spawns in the same spot on the roof you might consider changing that because it appears you do and I’ve had robbers ambush the SWAT which I guess is a bit of a tactic but still, it’s kind of annoying feeling helpless as the robbers shoot you down and you don’t even have a weapon yet.

  • When playing as a robber it would be nice to have some small icons in the corners what show your abilities and what key to press to activate them. I think you have an icon for smoke but it doesn’t say what to press to activate it.

  • Some signs or something inside the mall/building might be nice or a clearer indication of where the entrance and exit are. Maybe just a little something to keep in mind for future maps.

  • It wasn’t clear where the armory was and I didn’t even know about it for a good while and I couldn’t figure out where people were getting the better guns. I did figure it out eventually but it would be nice if it was clearer. Also is there a reason that a bunch of stuff is unavailable until after a breach of security and how is a breach of security even detected?

  • I don’t see any HP meter so I have no idea how much health I’m not or if I can recharge health

  • When using smoke it’s unclear how long you’ll remain invisible, it would be nice if the icon had a countdown to when you’re visible once you activate it and then it has a cooldown timer for how long until next use.

  • Just a small think but some weapon stats would be nice.

  • For monetization I’d suggestion making it clearer how much cash you have and how you earn it and how much you’re earning. Right now I have no incentive to really earn any cash, I mean i guess there are crates but they don’t seem very exciting right now.

Oh my, that was a lot longer than I anticipated. Hopefully that’s not too overwhelming :sweat_smile: I will say it’s definitely got a lot of potential and with a bit of updating it could be really fun, not that it isn’t already fun :smiley: I think you’ve got some decent core mechanics down and now it’s just fine tuning and polishing.

Yeah the game is still in development. Thanks for your criticism, most if it is stuff we are already aware of, but some of it is actually insightful and I appreciate it.
