PBS Whitelist/Blacklist should exist for regular games as well

Continuing the discussion from Game.AcceptConnection Callback:

I’ve posted this as a reply to some feature requests before, but never it’s own feature request. I assume it’s gone unnoticed because it has always been a reply instead of an actual feature request. What we need is this:

We need the PBS Whitelist/Blacklist for all games! This is what you’ll get with it:

The ability to entirely prevent people from joining your place

Kicking them when they join the server allows them to still get a sneak peak and/or downvote the place. Preventing them from joining entirely will prevent them from doing either of these things.

The ability to restrict access to a certain group by rank!

Currently group games allow you to restrict place access to group members, but that’s not good enough! The PBS whitelist allows you to whitelist particular ranks for a group. It doesn’t stop there either. In addition to allowing people to visit by rank, you can also admin them by rank without having to put any notoriously untrustworthy admin commands in your place or making your own, and then they can ban/kick people from the server as soon as that’s done.

The ability to group-restrict places without having edit access in a group / displaying them on your group page

Group games aren’t very malleable at the moment. Lower-ranked members can’t use them to group-restrict their fan-based places, and in regards to them being displayed on your group page, it’s either all or nothing. You can either have all of your active places displayed on your group page, or none at all. If you have a place only open to higher ranks in the group, it makes no sense to display it on the group page. Your only two options are to disable all group places on the group page (not a reasonable solution) or creating an alternate account with a friends-only place and manually adding/removing the people who should be able to access the place as friends (also not a good solution). With the PBS whitelist/blacklist, you can host the place on your own profile (won’t be displayed on the group page where it shouldn’t be) and still give permissions based on rank in the group!

The ability to restrict access to a select set of people

If I want to restrict access to a place to me, myself, and I (basically my main account and alts for testing purposes, and maybe some dedicated testers), my only two options are to either, similarly to group-restricting a place, host the place on an alternate account, set it to friends-only, add the people I want to be able to join the place as friends, and then log onto that account whenever I want to work on that place, or I can create a personal development group where I accept the people I need for testing into the group. Both of those are not good solutions because in the former I have to constantly switch between accounts, and with the latter, I’m out one group slot of group space, wasted a group name, and am stuck with that group forever (I can’t leave it or else someone else can take it and gain access to all the places I’ve worked on in it). With the PBS whitelist/blacklist, I can extremely easily whitelist just a few people for whatever place I don’t want the world joining without creating an entire group or alternate account.

The ability for non-scripters to control access to their places

I’m dumbfounded by how, in 2016, you still have to be a scripter or ask for a scripter’s help to even begin thinking about controlling access to your place. You either have to insert a free model admin command script (which as mentioned above can be notoriously unstrustworthy) or learn to script to do something this simple. The PBS whitelist/blacklist will allow every single person on ROBLOX to ban/admin people at their places with ease, regardless of whether they know how to script or not.

We need this on all games – not just personal build servers, It is far more useful in normal games than it is collectively in personal build servers. There might need to be some changes (i.e. getting it to work with username changes if that already hasn’t happened and removing the Member rank / build tools, and not shutting down the server when the list on the site is updated), but overall this would be an amazing thing to have. Letting it rot with personal servers is letting its potential go to waste.

Edit: It’d also be nice to be able to read/modify ranks with the Lua API so we can work with the whitelist/blacklist.

According to a recent blog post, PBS games will be removed soon enough. This is a good chance to bring this back into the light. We should have full control over access to our game regardless of whether we can script or not (even if you can script, it doesn’t prevent them entirely from joining, and downvoting / getting a sneak peak). We need full control over who can access our places ROBLOX. This whitelist/blacklist should be part of all games!

I support this, I have time and time again needed this.

I reckon it’s the “poll effect”: when you have a poll in the OP, people tend to use the poll rather than also upvoting the post (but overall it should still be better because polls get more activity than upvotes usually)

Nope, thats a dead thing. I’ll be happy with it gone. TeamCreate has replaced PBS. :]

Maybe restrict the “controls” to “BC” membership, as of right now, the only features BC has, is getting money faster than NBC. and the group limit, and place limit.

“Never charge developers”

The trend you’re noticing where there are less and less BC-only features is intentional. There’s no need to arbitrarily restrict the feature to BC members only.

Well, i’m simply saying that people that have or want to buy bc, buys it for a reason, and if BC loses all it’s features, there’s not really any need for BC, just pay to get cash.

I think the current BC model is working quite well, otherwise we probably wouldn’t be here.

There’s no reason for us to suggest what ROBLOX should monetize (unless there’s somehow a desire for it, in place of concern for ROBLOX’s marketing tactics) since ROBLOX, who are better-informed about their own marketing, already discuss this kind of stuff themselves. They know what they’re getting into.
