People have private profiles while not suppose to

It was previously stated people who posted before should get their profile unhidden:

I am aware it shouldn’t work with staff member’s topics in Updates > Announcements but i recently noticed this occouring to many people who posted before:

https://devforum.roblox.com/t/image-that-got-me-terminated-was-approved-but-my-account-wasnt-reactivated/3845003

https://devforum.roblox.com/t/audio-routing-not-working/3827547

https://devforum.roblox.com/t/how-do-i-make-this-cinematic-effect/3822884

Despite posting before in the Help and Feedback > Platform Usage Support catagory, their profile wasn’t unhidden. I did notice this with multiplie users accross the forum and i haven’t seen it get fixed nor their profile unhidden

Since it was stated that profiles should get unhidden after posting for the first time and they clearly posted before, i believe this is a bug. I’m not sure if this behavior occours only when creating a topic or generally posting

my fault, i don’t really use devforum much other than looking at stuff that interests me (like engine things that replicate dosbox games or cool ragdoll physics)

and it appears i didn’t read this topic, i thought i could make my account public but then i [just now] saw it was a bug

That was just my assumption from briefly looking at the settings, best thing to do is look at the Discourse source code if you want to know the precise logic.

Anecdotally, for the three accounts you mention here, 2 of them have 0 replies (just topics) and the other one’s replies are all in the last 6 hours. It’s possible the profile visibility is only refreshed every few hours. I haven’t looked into it too deeply yet.

If you see this happening with a well-established account let us know.

Will the concerns of not being able to “block” private profiles ever be addressed? The ignore button on the pages of private profiles is entirely absent and I’m not aware of any work-arounds.

For more info, I made a topic about this not that long ago

I would like to establish first whether there is actually something going on here where sometimes profiles do not get unhidden when people have made their first reply and some time has passed.

I don’t know if there’s a use case for blocking people who have made no replies or private message responses.

Visitors can be invited to DMs, they just can’t create them. This is good use case but you should be able to ignore them.

What is the use case for adding visitors to devforum messages?

If I recall correctly things like Gamejams allow people with only visitor ranked accounts to participate, for example, so it would be good to have for things like coordinating.

In general I think it serves enough of a purpose to not purposefully omit it, since it already exists right now. Before the forum upgrade, having unhidden visitors you could set to ignore and being able to invite them to DMs both existed and were fine. I don’t really see the purpose of upsetting that whole system for essentially aesthetics. I can’t think of any real uses for having them hidden except that it’s default behavior and easier to leave it than change it to how it used to function.

For the record, ignoring is only part of the picture. Viewing Roblox profiles and Discourse statistics (last seen, joined, etc) are useful for people like me. In regards to ignoring, not only is it useful for DMs (my use case is game jams and formerly communication for a game studio where one of the members was not able to have Discord), but it may be useful for preventing like spam from some members. Hopefully this can be looked into.
