Perspective - The odds of becoming Developer Famous

Introduction

Hello dear users, I’m DigitalRock023 and I’ve been developing on Roblox for the past 2 Years.

I’ll begin by saying that I’ve very much enjoyed engaging with new people and attempt to hit the front page. You earn confidence along the way, knowledge of good leadership and even have fun. Though not to say that this is all show off, the odds of doing well vary on your environment and the dependency of your situation. So what I’ve come to discuss and analyse with newer developers on, are the chances of becoming a front page star.

Creating an effective Guide towards new-coming Developers

I’ve done something similar with a previous post of mine, however I feel it is outdated and that my wording wasn’t the best.

Starting Out

Even in the modern times of 2020, most new devs will likely start at the near bottom. Unless you already have a large fan-base or follower count, it’ll be tough establishing yourself with other high quality developers or even mid-tier developers. Most of us don’t have budgets large enough to fund an entire self-working developer team.

I know how you feel, and at this point you might be thinking chances are already low, but this doesn’t have to be if you have a strategic and committed mindset. Factors to be thought of could be as simple as having good English, but also obtaining good networking skills and a moderate profile of skills. Common sense thinking might also be important, but however you establish a new game project with another dev(s).

Commitment

Being honest to my heart, this game took me half a year to make with a fellow dev. I may not have made the best decisions towards creating this game, however what is important is that I committed. I did homework study about how to relate with current famous games. You may play the game if you want to see how just 2 people implemented fun game-play.

If you don’t think your capable of facing the challenges of leading a game creation project, then your most likely don’t have commitment. Without commitment, the odds of reaching Stardom are 0%.

Expansion

I believe there is a common misconception that developers are entitled to believe they are finally done. They can step away and take some break time. I’m here to advise that this is not true, your final hurdle to stardom is Expansion. What I mean by this is essentially advertising, net working, sponsoring, community growth and word of gossip.

This is ultimately why you don’t see Warfront on the front page right now, along side a few other problems involved with the game internally and externally, but what you can do if your at this stage in making a game is go all out on net-working. Seriously, go all out on it. You can attempt to go on Ro-Tank hosted every week by TheDevKing, contact every single YouTuber thank you think could possibly showcase your game, share with friends who play Roblox, common sense stuff.

I no longer think Advertising with Roblox(s) system is good enough for those with a lower-end Robux count, results are often mediocre at best and can easily be overshadowed by already high funded games/people.

Conclusion

It’s not easy becoming the next Badimo on Roblox. You’ve gotta work real hard if you want to be in that spot light, not to say that I haven’t followed my own thoughts. I’m still seeking to improve myself by working with others on this new game with high quality developers which I might link in the future.

On an inspirational note, developers are continuously earning more and more annually. As well as the rapidly growing Developer Forum, coming together with other Developers has never been as easy as now.

What are the chances of becoming Developer Famous? No one knows, but it’ll always be higher if you follow your heart and stay committed :slightly_smiling_face:

I always have kept coding because of the drive from knowing I could be a famous developer. Although this is not easy to accomplish, you have to keep trying because if you don’t your chances are 0.

Commitment is very very important in the developer world. When the popular survival game ‘Booga Booga’ originally released I played it relentlessley. Soybeen managed to make a simple product all by himself and managed to get it to the front page without a CENT on advertising. I do not know if on Roblox today feats like that are still possible, but what I do know is that this absolute evidence to the power of commitment.

Booga was a huge inspiration for me. Booga got me to learn scripting, then my fear of being bad at scripting got me to learn modeling software, then I overcame my fear of scripting with some help from close friends. I also networked heavily during that period of learning, eventually getting onto the staff team on the booga discord. From the position as staff, I created renders and proof of concepts, all to give back to soybeen and booga for the motivation they had given me. I’ve linked some examples below.

Eventually my works were taken notice of. Now I work part time for Booga under Soybeen, developing new features and working with the community! I finally found a way to thrive in the developer environment and profit from it. Now, with my new found funding. I have enjoyed the opportunity of working together with @DigitalRock023 on new upcoming projects. In conclusion, take every opportunity, and don’t give up. I tried for three years to get to my position, and it worked out. It can for you to.
