The developer forums are bad enough as they are. We don’t need to make them worse.
(and at TNM21)
I’d like you two to think about this for a bit. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the “Life as a ROBLOX mod”, “What username would you want that is already taken”, “I don’t always drink soda…”, “What genre of music do you like”, etc. In all honesty, they’re probably better than some of the development threads here on RbxDev because they rarely attract shitposts (so long as the post isn’t a troll – those and the lounge are two completely different things.) Now, I’d like you to also take a look at the Scripters subforum. Even before RbxDev, Scripters wasn’t very active – it’s not because the people there are never on, but because there’s not much to talk about. The Lounge brings RbxDev to life – without it, the majority of posts would be feature requests and bug/exploit reports – we’d be like Scripters without it. If you don’t like the Lounge, then there is a plugin available to you that hides it from the Recent Topics – I have no clue why people dislike the Lounge so much.
I still don’t understand the logic behind forum sections like the Lounge making these forums worse… The subforums are being used for exactly what they were intended to be used for and the content in the other forums is largely unaffected. A place for random stuff is probably benefiting the other forums…
It’s unfortunate that you both say this while I didn’t actually complain about the lounge. I only opposed the idea of adding a forum games section. I have never, I believe, said something on this forum that hints in any way that I am against the lounge section. And I don’t intend to give a such hint; it is the entire forum that I think is in a bad state (except the updates section, which I regard as not being in the right place anyway), not only the lounge, and as much as I am not willing to positively assert that the lounge improves the forum, I am not willing to assert the inverse.
Regardless, if you “don’t understand the logic behind forum sections like the Lounge making these forums worse”, you might want to think about other development-oriented communication means (issue trackers, question and answer websites, IRC channels and mailing lists) which, completely coincidentally, of course, have no off topic sections or areas and typically have content of better quality. This is not a proof in itself that off topic sections make forums worse, but it is a path that can lead you to find, if there is such, logic behind the idea that off topic forum sections can be harmful to a forum.
But, please, don’t put in my mind ideas that I have never expressed, no matter how much actually possible it is that I have them.
