Petition For "Forum Games" Section

I’d like to ask the admins to add a Forum Games section to Off Topic.

I feel odd posting game threads (or question threads with polls) in Lounge.

You can vote on the poll on this thread.

NOTE: I AM AWARE THE ADMINS ARE BUSY SO I DON’T EXPECT TO GET THIS SECTION UNLESS THERE IS MORE THAN SIGNIFICANT DEMAND.

Actually, I don’t think new sections are difficult to add.

That would just make this place feel a little bit more like the roblox forums.

@Dennis: Move your lonely, depressing attitude somewhere else pl0x

Oh man, tl;dr.

In no way was I being ‘lonely’ or ‘depressing.’ I was just stating my opinion.
And yeah, what ripull wrote. Why not just use the fast paced version on the actual roblox website?

The developer forums are bad enough as they are. We don’t need to make them worse.

I still don’t understand the logic behind forum sections like the Lounge making these forums worse… The subforums are being used for exactly what they were intended to be used for and the content in the other forums is largely unaffected. A place for random stuff is probably benefiting the other forums…

doesnt seem very mature/discussion oriented

I’d like you two to think about this for a bit. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the “Life as a ROBLOX mod”, “What username would you want that is already taken”, “I don’t always drink soda…”, “What genre of music do you like”, etc. In all honesty, they’re probably better than some of the development threads here on RbxDev because they rarely attract shitposts (so long as the post isn’t a troll – those and the lounge are two completely different things.) Now, I’d like you to also take a look at the Scripters subforum. Even before RbxDev, Scripters wasn’t very active – it’s not because the people there are never on, but because there’s not much to talk about. The Lounge brings RbxDev to life – without it, the majority of posts would be feature requests and bug/exploit reports – we’d be like Scripters without it. If you don’t like the Lounge, then there is a plugin available to you that hides it from the Recent Topics – I have no clue why people dislike the Lounge so much.

Whilst the lounge is a source of great fun, it’s also the source of 90% of all conflicts on RBXDev. Also spam, trolling, etc.

Do you think the trolling/spam will go away just because the lounge goes away? The Lounge isn’t the cause of the Spam/Trolling – the users are. Just because you remove the place that they usually post it in doesn’t mean it will stop.

As with all of the “what is the lounge for?” discussions, this suggestion begs the question: is this what roblox had in mind when they created this forum?

While I can’t answer that question I can say that, from what I’ve observed, this forum was meant to be a place to harbor development-oriented discussion, which cannot survive on the roblox forums. Many of you flagrantly use this forum as a replacement for other means of communication, like a facebook wall or a twitter feed, and while much of the lounge’s discussion is on a gray line that we’ve so aptly named “tolerable”, some of it goes far beyond that boundary.

This suggestion is, in essence, a request to complete the transformation of this forum from developer-oriented to community-oriented.

I’m not going to remark on my opinion, since my personal ideals don’t weigh nearly enough to have any bearing on the decision. I just want you all to understand why some people agree and disagree, and what it would mean if this happened.

Come on guys, don’t start another Lounge debate.
It’s already been debated to the point of exhaustion in other threads.

Personal opinion: Lounge is cool, have no problem with it. Just wish I could filter Lounge posts out of Recent is all, because I come on these forums more for development discussion over anything else. Hell I’m even subscribed to development discussion.
My email is spammed lol.

I send Nexx messages on Facebook when I don’t want other devs to see it.

Am I doing it right?

It’s unfortunate that you both say this while I didn’t actually complain about the lounge. I only opposed the idea of adding a forum games section. I have never, I believe, said something on this forum that hints in any way that I am against the lounge section. And I don’t intend to give a such hint; it is the entire forum that I think is in a bad state (except the updates section, which I regard as not being in the right place anyway), not only the lounge, and as much as I am not willing to positively assert that the lounge improves the forum, I am not willing to assert the inverse.

Regardless, if you “don’t understand the logic behind forum sections like the Lounge making these forums worse”, you might want to think about other development-oriented communication means (issue trackers, question and answer websites, IRC channels and mailing lists) which, completely coincidentally, of course, have no off topic sections or areas and typically have content of better quality. This is not a proof in itself that off topic sections make forums worse, but it is a path that can lead you to find, if there is such, logic behind the idea that off topic forum sections can be harmful to a forum.

But, please, don’t put in my mind ideas that I have never expressed, no matter how much actually possible it is that I have them.

You see what you look for.

Games are fun :c

Why de-promote games, evil developers >:c

Honestly, I think you guys are just too uptight. You need to lay back a little. Imagination is was makes games great. Imagination doesn’t come from sitting on your ass all day and do absolutely nothing. You need to explore. Typically games reflect a person’s attractions to a certain genre, their imagination drives them to make it and finish it. That’s what happens when people get older, their imagination decreases, that’s why book writers and poem makers are well… Imaginative.

TL;DR - Playing games expands imagination, so why not expand your imagination? This maybe a weak argument, but really. Guys, just relax.
