[Pilot] Apply for the Video Discovery Pilot!

This is genuinely exactly what I’m worried about. I don’t want to see any meme-related trailers jumpscaring me and ruining my day (If yall don’t know, I hate popular memes :sob:)

So why can I, as a user who isn’t age verified upload a YOUTUBE video to my game page, but I can’t use OFFICIAL methods of showing videos on my game page without getting age verified??

I’d imagine both are moderated, I see no reason you shouldn’t be able upload a video without ID.

Surely you should be capable of adding a button on the thumbnails page to upload a short trailer, right? Why make the user go through studio (and need ID) to upload a video trailer that will only be used on the website.

Just make this feature available to users >13 with no need for any ID verification.

Yeah, I’d imagine its not hard, but some of us don’t want to hand our PERSONAL IDENTIFYING DOCUMENTS over to a company we barely know that for all we know could have a data breach and anyone who sent their data to that company, well good job the internet now knows exactly who and where you are.

Also, there’s people like me who do have ID, but isn’t valid ID for roblox since its state issued and not government issued.
I am an adult, I should be able to use these features but because they’re locked behind a beyond stupid requirement, I can’t.

im not an adult but like i totally agree and this ID verification stuff is making me slowly crash out, to the point where my bio mentions it

while i have ID, nobody is gonna get my Personally Identifiable Information for a glorified youtube video, i would rather keep it and use it in actually realistic situations, instead of handing it out like candy for basic features

What is the deal with new features requiring ID? There is not a chance I am giving my ID just so I can use all these features, my account will never be ID verified. Especially after all the data leaks Roblox has had. There needs to be a better way to verify users.

Are these videos allowed to include quick credits at the end, such as a studio branding at the conclusion, or is it strictly gameplay?

Hi @Laser_Gun5540, we’re hoping to start the pilot sometime before the end of June (I know it’s kind of a wide timeframe sorry, there are some dependencies).

Due to other factors like moderation scalability / feature performance I’m not really able to give a good estimate of when it’ll exit beta.

Hi @Vanniris, yes we’re talking about the Roblox App (not website).

We encourage gameplay videos to prevent misleading users - We’re aware that there is value in cinematic editing but at this moment we are optimizing for more accuracy of the user experience and testing if that improves experience understanding.

Credits at the end are totally fine! But generally, text overlays are acceptable but not recommended. Since the text will not be localized, having vs. not having text in the video should not impact viewers’ ability to understand what your game is about. That’s why we recommend keeping it to a minimum.

To @Wheatly199 and other folks concerned about ID verification and age requirements - Totally get your concern here. Note that we’re piggybacking off the existing video asset tool for our pilot, which currently requires ID verification and 13+ status. But after the pilot, when we enter full launch, we anticipate having a dedicated upload flow for your discovery videos, where the eligibility requirements will be different. I can’t specify what they will be yet, but our goal is to open access as much as possible over time, to the degree that our moderation, serving, and hosting can accommodate.

please add video controls for users. If im looking at a game and see something cool its nice to be able to rewind and play it again

I don’t know yet if we’ll have this in time for the pilot, but it’s definitely on our list.

If these videos autoplay, then please please please add a toggle to disable it. I’m fine with it being autoplay by default, but there are times where I don’t want a video blaring music without my explicit permission.

Confused on whether this just for the pilot, or if experiences are limited to one video? Having multiple videos highlighting different topics would help generate extra attention IMO.

Thank god someone else has this same sentiment. I feel like discovery became 50x harder without user ads.

I was gonna comment that too, it’s kind of ironic how they put this like “for bigger reach for everyone” and then 2 minutes later: “gotta be id verified tho bucko”

I feel like if this launches it could either go horribly wrong, or really great.

It gives creators another way to make their experience more appealing to players on first glance, and have a chance to increase ctr.

However how would this affect the current state of YouTube video uploading? I feel like most creators are driven away from uploading a YouTube video because of the price, with the release of this will there be a different way to upload videos, and if so will the price increase or stay the same?

I feel like top performing games would be the only people to maximise off of this, anyone trying to launch a game from the ground up may not have enough to fund the uploading, let alone the creation of a video for the game.

In conclusion I feel like this could have a great impact on the appearance of games, however I feel like Roblox should be doing more to help new developers and experiences reach the front page, or even see some light.

When it comes to adding multiple videos, you have to think about the optimisation of this. It could cause lag if you try and load too many things at once, especially for lower end devices.

Having trailers, and showcases for games is always more visually pleasing and appealing. However the knowledge you need to be able to create such video is immense, and people always charge alot for the creation of such videos.

I think it would be great if Roblox came out with a tool that allowed you to create your own trailer/showcase in Studio, and upload it directly from Studio.

This could include elements from the Animator to create cutscenes.

Why is it then on some experiences they play, from what I’ve seen anyway?
