Pine Tree Mesh Feedback and Question

Hey everyone, I just finished modelling this pine tree in Blender, and wanted to get some general feedback on it and ask a question about lighting and coloring. Here it is:

Now, personally, I would prefer it to not be so shiny/reflective, and would like a more matte look, but I’m not sure how to best achieve this. I’ve already applied a bit of auto-smoothing with some edges being marked as sharp. Should I color the mesh in Blender before importing? Right now I am not giving it a texture in blender and instead just setting a color in Roblox Studio. Does this have an effect on how the mesh interacts with the lighting?

Changing the material does change the look & way it interacts with lighting if this is a MeshPart. I’m guessing right now this is in SmoothPlastic so you could instead use Plastic for example to make it less reflective.

Personally I like the shiny look but I know some people prefer it when it doesn’t glow as much. It’s all up to your design choices of course.

It’s also possible that it looks shiny because you have EnvironmentSpecularScale in your Lighting settings set to higher than zero.

Anyways, that’s what I could say right off my head but let me know if you have any specific questions.

Changing it to plastic reduces the shine enough to be acceptable, my only issue with it is that you can see the texture of the rough plastic now. It won’t really fit with the other parts of the map which use smooth plastic.

You could use it for cafe games to story games, this style of building will always be approved by most of our members & developers!

I really like it, you did a good job. How much did it take you & how long were you experimenting with your building style? (Blender, Roblox Studio, etc)

EDIT: Also you should probably change the material.

Good job, you’ll get far! :slightly_smiling_face:

I see,
Then I guess if you make your own coloured texture over it with still the plastic material on, it would give the desired smooth look with less shine.

For example:

The one in the middle uses a green texture with the exact same color but the material is still set to plastic.

It took me about an hour, I was already relatively familiar with Blender’s tools so there wasn’t a big learning curve to start out. I also had a pretty good idea of what style I wanted going into it.
