Pivot Editor: Full Release

The dot isn’t centered for some reason.

Could you elaborate on the circumstances?

Hey, I have a bug,
This has been happening since the start but I always forget to report it. The pivot point and the selection box dont realign themselves after moving, this happens only on unanchored parts on which physics acts. To show better what I mean I have a video for you but roblox has been extremely bugged from yesterday including the devforum, whenever I try to upload a video it says an error occured and you cant upload the file

You have to set the PrimaryPart of a Model if you want that Model’s pivot to “follow” it during simulation under the new system, the PrimaryPart will inform which part in the Model the pivot follows.

I received that and had no idea what it was. Thanks!

Now rolled out to 100% of users.

  • Also, setting the pivot when importing a mesh has been moved behind the new studio setting “Set Pivot of Imported Parts”. We want this to be a core part of the workflow long term with our upcoming unified asset import process, however, for now it makes more sense to keep this optional as there are some outstanding complexities with what mesh pivots make sense.

  • Opt-out is still available, however, will be going away reasonably soon unless further issues are brought up. Some mesh importing issues were the only outstanding blocker that we were aware of, so if something else is causing you issues please speak up now!

What is happening?
I just updated and now I can’t resize a Part.

And no, I wasn’t holding shift or any other keys. I was using the normal scale tool.
Edit:The Part I was trying to resize was the parent of another Part. Oops…

Have these recent updates been moving properties around as well?
For example, “Position” used to be near the bottom of the Properties window, but now it’s in the middle under “Transform”.

Either way, is there a way to revert or customize property locations ourselves?
They’ve been moving all over the place lately and it’s becoming very confusing to locate them again every time they move.

On a similar note, though It’s not really related to this post, anyone know why materials are sometimes in alphabetical order and sometimes not?

Yes, all the position related properties were moved to be together in the same “Transform” section.

No. They were unintentionally moved around fairly recently, and we’re sorry about that. We took steps after that event to make sure that they’ll never move around unintentionally again. The order that they have right now should be the order they have for the foreseeable future unless we specifically move one of them.

I’ve never heard about this bug before, if you can get a good demonstration I would recommend reporting it.

I can see how this could be extremely useful.

I noticed that the pivots shrink the move arrows but not the scale tool. Is there a toggle for this, and if not, bug or intentional feature?

This is intentional. Since “Scale” in studio is really an extrude operation that changes where the edges of the object are and not a scale operation it still makes sense for the handles to be out at the edges for scale. The Scale handles do respect the pivot placement though:

Yeah this will be very useful, especially for animating. But I wish there was a way to see which way the pivot is rotated.

On some models before the release of this update, the pivot sphere will locate itself in an irrelevant area instead of at the center of the model which can be frustrating for users that don’t know how to reset the pivot sphere. Is this intentional or will this be fixed?

It can’t be fixed because there’s no way to tell whether the user deliberately set them or not (though we’d still be interested in knowing how the got messed up for posterity).

The best we could do is to offer a way to reset all the pivots in a place with one action.

Seems to have an affect on models that haven’t been utilized after the patch. Not only that but I’ve noticed that the pivot position breaks when switching between default building tools and alternative building tools (likely on the plugin’s end though).

Yes, this will be the case. Building plugins that haven’t updated to to either use the new model movement APIs or separately update the pivot when moving models the way they used to will leave pivots in a bad state. I made sure that the top F3X and SBS distributions were updated, but if you’re using something more obscure you’ll run into issues unless they’ve updated. See this post: [Action Required] Pivot API Release: Update F3X / SBS Plugins

Is there any settings to remove this new pivot feature, it’s really annoying having a massive dot in the middle

No, there’s no way to turn it off because we want to have more features key off of it in the future and having those features key off of something that isn’t visible would be very confusing.

We thought that the compromise of showing it only with the tools that care about it was good enough. Is there a particular thing that it disrupts?

It’s annoying me due to my autism, it feels like it shouldn’t be there, having an option to make it transparent or turn it off with control would be a great feature to this.
