Pixel-Art Blocks (Early Designs)

I’m currently working on block designs just for a fun showcase.

I made a few pixel art designs and I’m planning on changing in the future. I would love to see your opinions about how they look currently!

Looks very nice, grass looks almost identical to minecraft, so might wanna make sure it’s a bit more original as to reduce the chance that people call it stolen. However, I personally think it’s fine. The rest of them look pretty good too. Copper is a bit too pink and orange, I’d dim each color down.

Hello!

It look cool, but it’s really inspired by Minecraft, i mean, too much, you should add you’r own “Drawing” (Even if it’s pixel…) style, because you just followed the Minecraft pattern.

Also about the color, it’s similar to Minecraft, the Grass is really similar for grass texture in Minecraft, the cobble stone same, but more blue, the copper look like granite, the limestone look like prismarine and the wood look just like wood in Minecraft.

So yes, you should do you’r own style of “draw”, and style of color.

Good luck, have a good day!

Thanks! I’m looking forward to changing it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yea, as time goes by I’ll try making the designs less ‘Minecrafty’. Thanks for the feedback!

No problem I’m here to help all the time

Hey, these look pretty good so far. I’ve been doing a lot of pixel art lately as well, so here’s some tips:

  1. Make sure the blocks are completely square. I noticed that everything except the Limestone block is not actually square, but it’s only a little bit off. Try sticking with one size for all of the blocks, too, once you figure out what size you want- I suggest 32x32. That might sound small, but it works really well.

  2. Keep a limited color palette. Make a new ‘project’ in whatever program you use and put little pixels of the colors you use. I recommend keeping it to at most 4-5 colors per block. If two colors are similar but not the same, choose a mid-tone and use that, or pick which of the two colors looks better.

  3. Experiment with hue shifting. Darker colors should be more saturated, darker, and be more purple. Lighter colors are brighter, less saturated, but more yellow. If you’re using a green, for example, lighter colors would go up to a lime color, and darker colors would go down to a dark teal. If you want too see what hue shifting looks like, I could send a version of your limestone block with hue shifting applied.

Hope these help!

Edit: Here’s a comparison of your texture against a hue-shifted version with a limited palette (4 colors only).
