It’s one thing to say that everything will eventually go back to normal, so there’s no benefit in fretting over what’s happening now, but saying it’s okay that your game is stolen because you should have made it uncopylocked in the first place is extreme. I don’t know how you can be a member of the developer forums and think that’s okay.

Your players should know what your game is running on their computers. Please read this: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html

Good god John – if you have a problem with ROBLOX and the community of developers here, just leave instead of loitering around complaining that ROBLOX games are “instruments of unjust power” and that “all of you should uncopylock your games”.

I never said anything about having a problem with ROBLOX or the community of “developers” here. (60% of the forum’s members are developers… Why is it called “RBXDev” or “ROBLOX Developer”?)
So after you tell everyone “oh it’s your fault for not uncopylocking your game that it got stolen”, and then “ROBLOX is an instrument of unjust power.”, you expect me to believe you’re not at odds with ROBLOX and its developers (who obviously don’t want to uncopylock every one of their games)? That’s a bit difficult.
Because this is a place where us, developers, try to keep a mature level of discussion on topics that for some directly relate to their primary source of income. Contributing to that would be highly appreciated by everyone.
Stop.
Let’s get some things straight. Stealing is NOT alright.
Getting stolen from can cost you players and profit, especially if your game requires that people invest any serious amount of time into it. Nobody is going to want to spend the time getting back to the point they were in the first version of the game they played. Not to mention game passes, which they certainly aren’t going to purchase again.
Regardless of all that, somebody using your assets without your consent is just a slap to the face. There should not be any debate over whether or not the person taking other people’s stuff without their permission and SELLING it is in the wrong.

Do you have any idea how bad it looks to be supporting open source games in the same thread people are talking about theft, and drawing the correlation of making it seem like it’s the game owners fault for not being open source? Like really, it makes you seem like you played a part in the exploit just from the cringe-worthyness of your talking.
Yes, I support open source software, no, I do not support open source Roblox games unless you’re abandoning the game and don’t plan on profiting from it anymore. Other than that one case, no game on roblox should ever open source, Robloxians aren’t like linux users, they don’t contribute to projects at all, and they will make absolutely no substantial improvements to your game, at best, a learning scripter will read your scripts and find out something new about Lua, but the community as a whole will not benefit from you open sourcing your game. To offset the lack of benefit to the community, you are actually doing them a disservice because users skilled at marketing will just take your game, throw some new interface and different models, and some free model scripts into it, run it up onto front page as version two, and profit from less effort than if they were having to market a new game.
And yes, this is based on experience, I was the person who made a popular game a while back, I open sourced it, and it has since hit front page several times, and stayed there for a while, and now has I believe 5 million plays in total now, and the person who got it there only slapped some decals on some parts, uploaded a pretty thumbnail, and recolored some of the models, etc.
I love you <3 This was much needed here
Has this been patched yet?
There was a patch that went out last night for this. The exploit author has claimed that it is patched and I trust him on this point. We are currently working to get more details about the exploit to ensure our patching method covers all cases.
Wait wait wait wait wait, what?
I just asked the author about this confirmation, and according to him, he never said that.
Are you going off of the fact that he closed the offer on v3rmillion? If so, he did that because he “has made enough money”, and because the panic was overwhelming him, not because of the patch.
What source are you getting this from Convex?
I got it from NobleDragon. It appears to be based on the v3rm thread as well. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Just got my game stolen :l used the devhelp email, hope it works.
